Hi all.
I begin my four weeks of CDL training tomorrow morning... and I am indeed excited! Excited to learn a new trade and enter the profession!
It is my goal to do OTR, specifically OTR that involves Canada and Alaska runs. Does anyone know which companies have long haul up to AK? At my school I've heard that plenty of recruiters are around there... I just wanted to know ahead of time which companies head up to the great state of AK.
Any drivers here do that run?
Thanks!![]()
I'd like to drive OTR 49 states... which companies?

There are lots of companies that drive into Canada, but 90% of Canada's population lives within 100 miles of the US border, so there isn't much need to go farther north. Alaskan freight is easier shipped then trucked. I'm sure there are some companies that will drive to Alaska, but finding one that hires students is going to be quite difficult if not impossible.

Every time I've gotten a load going to Alaska, I'd unload it in Washington, then it would be sent up there by ship.
Canada.. well, when I first ran OTR, it wasn't so difficult to do. I've been running local for a long time, and the guy I'm working for won't run Canada, because he refuses to govern his trucks at 63 (not to mention you can't cart a spread axle into there, save for Ontario). But I used to run to Brantford, Ontario all the time with Swift's flatbed division, hauling bus chassis for Blue Bird out of Fort Valley, Georgia. Problem is, once I got up there, I typically got stuck up there, running back and forth between there and New Boston, Michigan, to pick up loads which had to be T-called because the drivers who picked them up had DUIs, missed child support payments, etc. which prohibited them from entering Canada. -
Shipping by boat seems to make sense, looking at the maps of BC and the Yukon. Never thought of that.
Canada's DOT requires trucks to not go faster than 63MPH?
That's good info. Thanks gents -
I think that the car-hauler company, Pilot Express, makes runs to Alaska. I've applied for them, but wasn't given a response. They're probably not hiring right now.
