Atleast the guy is doing his research. Out of the 3 companies given, Id choose Swift. But be aware that it is only the lesser of 3 evils.

"Several weeks off ? " :biggrin_2559: . You'll need to start your job search over after that .

He's laughing at the statement driver....... that doesn't work here. If you take "several weeks off" then you will be released. Most drivers are lucky to get 3 days off unless you work a union gig and have 20 or so in.....I believe you might 5 weeks off but not all at once as a rule.

Thank you for clarifying.... I guess my misunderstanding came as a result when I spoke with a recruiter for one of the 3 companies...

He made it sound like if I was flexible enough to spend stacked up time OTR then I could then take extra time off as opposed to a weekend every two weeks or whatever is par.

    Again, I appreciate the clarity...

With that said... Is there any benefit to be had if I am willing to stay on the road longer than those who go home regularly?

If you stay on the road longer you might have the opportunity to earn more money. Then again, you may not. If you live out of the truck you might save on rent or mortgage, utilities, etc., But, you could spend some money on motels every now and then. I have had drivers who chose to be out longer and rent a motel room once or twice a month just to get out of the truck. That is less expensive than paying for a residence when you are not home.

Ok, now that more or less is the area that I think I would fit in....

I recognize I won't be making any money my first year, so minimizing my nut is part of the plan.

    Thank you for that!

Look into Stevens Transport. I spoke with a driver from there who was asked to take a break at my school by the recruiter. He was paid layover pay. They seemed to have nice recent trucks. well maintained. Reefer trailers. He goes out 4-5 weeks at a time. Lives out of his truck.
Worth looking into over the others you've mentioned. Use this lace a sresource as well. Look into Schneider as well. Just got hired on with them. I really like what I hear about the company from the drivers who post here.

    Wherever you go, good luck.

Expedite companies accept 75% availability . Many drivers work 3 weeks straight then take a week off . Often the third week they accept a load near somewhere they would like to spend a week - the beach , ski resort , etc .
The expedite companies (FedEx Custom Critical , Panther ) do not employ drivers but fleet owners contracted to them do . Inquire in the Expedite and Hotshot forums here .
