Short term it's fine.
Long term it can could make the def/dpf system go bad sooner.
I idle all summer (dedicated run in texas) the only thing that changed was it did a parker passive regen more often.PE_T Thanks this. -
When the truck needs to do a passive regen IT will kick the idle up to 1,000 rpm's on it's own. When it's done IT will drop it back to idle....
That how you know it's doing it....Wileycoyote1911, D.Tibbitt, PE_T and 2 others Thank this. -
The DD15 in the Cascadia Evolution only idles up to 850, and when an active regen is required, it idles up to around 1200, the coolant temp increases, and usually the fan kicks in once or twice, takes around 10 minutes.
2018 model year.D.Tibbitt, PE_T, Dave_in_AZ and 1 other person Thank this. -
Desiels run forever. But add emissions and you choke the engine unless you idle hot enough to support the emissions.
Generally I set them at 1200 for the night. In extreme low temperatures I'll set em at 1600 temporarily.D.Tibbitt Thanks this. -
Idling is the kiss of the death.
Snailexpress, blairandgretchen, bzinger and 6 others Thank this. -
