We’ll just so happens we got a parts truck with budds. I guess we can still use the rears? Both the donor and receiver trucks have IH rears.

How rare were Cat powered I-H’s back then?
I can’t recall ever seeing a cat in one down in this part of the country. Seems like they were tied 50/50 with Cummins or Detroit. All painted red of course.
Seemed like I-H used so many Cummins that I see remnants of the red still on engine replacement parts in other trucks. The rear head and water manifold on the 220 in the White I’m working on now was worn off I-H Red and rust.Last Call, mile marker 27, BoxCarKidd and 1 other person Thank this. -

Bolt pattern and inside spider diameter as well. This is one of the original disc brake trucks and was a glider in 87, don't know when it was made.
On farm only, does not even cross a road or have high range. It had zero brakes and no parts were available. These cam brake housing are off a Rockwell from a Ford. Cut the centers out with a torch. Drilled four holes and welded a bit. It is still running like this six years later. Had brakes on one axle.
Later came across another IH with same axles. S cam instead of disc. Budd hubs instead of Dayton. It all bolts up so keep your search strictly IHC.mile marker 27 Thanks this. -
Never seen a Cat in an A or B model 4070. The ‘77 I bought, that my FIL now has, had a 8V Detroit in it. When it gave out, a 290 small cam was put in. That engine was rebuilt twice before I bought it, now I’m building it, to a 350 small cam. I’ve only seen a couple 9670’s that were original Cat powered. One was a 350 Cat and the other a 400 Cat.

The 1987 9670 Eagle I drove came with a 3406B 425 from the factory , I picked it up at the dealer. Ran produce with it from Cali to Montreal Quebec and backLast Call Thanks this.

Does seem, by the mid to late ‘80’s other companies were taking up with CAT. Prior to, PACAAR was the primary user of CAT and probably still used more of the engines, up to the end of CATs truck engines.Star Rider Thanks this.

I don't think a 3406 .. would fit in those 4070's I think .. I remember a guy that worked for the IH truck divison tell me that .. but that was years ago
I know IH put 3606's in the conventional 4300's during the same time period that the 4070 were built
Another thing to ponder.. how many 4070B have you ever saw that came from the factory with twin stacks ?.. and 'am not refer'n to the air intake with the bug catcher that was located next to the exhaust going up the right rear cornerBoxCarKidd, Star Rider, SmallPackage and 1 other person Thank this. -
I know they made just a few 4090’s with 12v71 Detroit’s. I have only seen maybe two but they were a thing. Mainly used up in the rust belt pulling turnpike doubles.Last Call Thanks this.
