i bought a "planar" brand bunk heater off ebay in dec for $640 new and shipped. was easy to install(as long as you can use a tape measure a drill and common sense) paid for itself all ready. when i used to grab an extra blanket, now i use the heater and my boogers dont freeze or thicken anymore.
my last truck came with a single cylinder diesel kubota and a roof mount ac. that set up was the biggest pain in the ______ ever!(did i violate the new petty censor skirt thing?)
the coronado glider i have now has a 8000btu "soleus" portable ac unit that i just put in from lowes $280. it fits like a glove between the pass seat and cabinet secured by simply locking the seat and tilting it back some. powered by..... a harbor junk gas generator which i ripped out of the cradel and mounted in the side box for $350. so far works perfect in the box under the pass door. 10 wires lenthened so the controll panel could be mounted in the pass floor cabinet with my bunk heater. everything is nice neat and clean. ive used habor junk generators before but only for a electric heater and the block heater and had good luck but i didnt log over 180 days on the road back then. buy the warrenty so when it blows you can just get another. from my experience they are less of a hassle than my experiences with kubota.
if i wasnt such a jew id get a no name diesel generator for about $1000 or a honda gas. only time will tell if my penny pinching way will be worth the hassle

Beware and correct me if i am wrong... i believe the gravety feed gasoline may violate dot regs unless a fuel pump is added.... out of site out, of mind i hope.

if im sitting for close to a day or better its motel time so i can have room to move and relax. maybe go somewhere to socialize that doesnt smell like pee and where most people speak english. i see no need to be anymore of a "bum" than i have to and i wont hang out in drivers lounges with most of the brain dead, ignorant, peanut earning eobr luvin riff raff.

I want to encourage everybody to not only idle, but bump it up to high idle at around 1100 rpm along with please drive 70+ mph eveywhere you go tailgating everybody riding the brakes and mashing the throttle to keep your company's fuel expenses very high that makes it real easy to get very profitable rates for those of us who have 9+ mpg trucks that hardly ever idle.

Thank you for your help making my truck very very profitable with great rates and very high profit margin due to lower fuel expenses than the competiton.

redforeman what you need to do to your heater is replace the burner tube inside the unit. These tube get carbon build up inside that some think you can clean but I can tell you will be cleaning it every year. Been there done it.. Replaced my tube two years ago and it running like new. Mine is eight years old now ran six years before any repairs. I replace the screen on glow pin every year but it was never carbon up. On HP2000 they run at a very high rpm like the carrier unit all of the gen set types apu's run all the time where as the tri pac is low rpm quite and cycle on and off saving more fuel. The other reason I pick the tri pac is dealer network is second to no one. Plus having been on the market so long they have the bugs worked out of it. This unit is saving me over 4000 dollars a year wish I had bought it ten years ago. Some one stated that switching it to another truck is expensive. The dealer told me they would do it for around 1000 dollars two hour to remove and eight hour install. That means that year i would save 3000 dollars. If you guy's see an O/O with a tri pac go talk to him. You will find out what I did all of them will say the best money they never spent. Also check with your local TK dealer they often have used units for sale mine told to stay away from units over 10000 hours.

Theres a guy about six trucks down from me that has been idling his truck all morning, with a tri pac on hanging off the frame rail, maybe I should go ask him how he likes his apu.

Oscar, the Tripac is probably broken mate......about a third of the ones I see that are more than a few years old have "issues".
For @$3K all in, I will stick to my little solution.
2 gallons of gas for 12hrs of freeze yer buns off a/c, as well as a heater, battery charger, quieter than any APU POS out there, can buy parts anywhere, although the 3yr commercial warranty is better than anything TK etc offer, etc. Cant be bothered working the savings out at todays prices, but with over 2k hrs on the generator last year alone, worth every penny.
Wireless remote for starting and stopping, takes @5 minutes to change the oil (0.6 of a qt), can run @16-20hrs on the internal gas tank, plus I have a couple of gas cans. Fuel line shut off makes the gravity feed stuff nil and void from my DOT findings, but I have yet to be asked anything about it in the inspections I have received. Getting gas is really no big deal at most truck stops, certainly not when you consider I am idling all night for @$5, with no sacrifices as far as heating/cooling etc goes.

Martin, I am probably going to go with the exact same setup as you have, I just can't see paying $10,000 for an apu that does the exact same thing.

I'm driving a company truck with Thermo King APU. I like not worrying about running out the battery if I sit for hours playing video games on my gaming laptop, but my company's been running me so much I hardly ever get the chance to enjoy it anyway.

I stop for 10 hour breaks and sleep pretty much the whole time. We'll see when Summer comes. Maybe the AC feature will make it more valuable to me.
