what would be the most likely cause of this scenario?
additional symptoms prior to complete loss of power steering and air loss: squealing at high idle (over 15k rpm) and extremely slow air pressure build up. A/C blowing hot air.
is this a pump gone bad or air compressor gone bad?
if a truck loses power steering and air at the same time...

What engine?

mercedes

Not sure on that engine but it sounds like a belt is slipping if its squealing.
ncmickey Thanks this. -

If you're running at 15,000 RPM I think you've got more to worry about than no power steering.....
All kidding aside, I'm not at all familliar with Mercedes but I have not seen a belt driven air compressor before. Could it possibly be a broken accessory drive if it also supplies power to a pulley to drive the A/C compressor?OLDSKOOLERnWV, SingingWolf and ChaoSS Thank this. -
Is you power steering air by chance?
Based on what you are describing, I would say belt is stretched beyond its service life. Or your idler pulley spring is weak. -
What truck?

western star

I driven a lot of miles with a Mercedez and the air compressor is not belt driven. The A/C is like any other truck, so if the compressor freezes up and the compressor clutch is engaged it would squeal unil the belt burned up.
