I do what I can to be courteous to everyone on the road. The exception is split speed states like Sillinois. I'm not gonna get hung out there with 50 cars trying to pass me on the right because I made the mistake of helping someone get on the road. If I can't go fast enough to maneuver, they're just gonna have to figure out how to merge on their own.
Another thing I've found that helps to get through cities.....in Omaha the through traffic stays to the far left and out of the way of the vehicles that are coming on and off. I know...opening a can of worms...but it makes sense. The most likely causes of accidents are merging, following too close, and maniacs changing lanes too fast while speeding. Most cities have an empty left lane and screaming drivers in the right.
With modern technology, you'd think they'd have a camera on the right side of every truck so we could see what's going on over there??? And aren't we supposed to have flying cars by 2010? Where's my flying truck?
If a trucker let's a 4-wheeler onto the interstate.....

I've heard that thru traffic should stay to the left in cities to stay out of the way, but the traffic in the left lanes is always going so fast! I'm in a company truck, governed at 62. Even in areas where the speed limit is 55, most 4's in the left lanes are doing 70. Which is more rude, Blocking somebody trying to merge, or blocking traffic already on the road? I think I'll stay in the right lane.

Seeing how my dad was a local trucker for H&W (sometimes he was OTR) I would notice, as a kid, he would be driving his 4-wheeler, and flash his lights to a semi that had passed us, telling him it was safe to move back into the slow lane. I now do this, not just because I saw my dad do it, and not only because it is the courtious thing to do for a truck driver, but each time i do it, I like to see the flash of lights from the truck driver back to me showing he appreciates it, and i do it because it shows respect to my father when he was a trucker. I just hope once i become OTR, I will see the same thing from other motorists.

it's not just urban 4 wheelers...
twice, yesterday, crossing western (is there any other 'ern' to Wyoming?) eastbound, I'm trapped in the right lane as I pass an on-ramp. Normally, I pull over for anything entering the road. I may be in the right if I stay in the right-hand lane, but parking a car under my trailer would just about mess up my day.
Anyway - trapped in the right hand lane.. stupid 4wheelers tootling up the ramp at 'old lady with a walker' speed. Not paying attention.. I HAVE to slow down.. so what do these morons do? Look in the mirror (finally) and see 80,000 pounds of Peterbilt and hauled cookies looming.. so THEY slow down even FURTHER.. in short order, the entire highway is a jacked up mess because this unmitigated moron can't check highway traffic before he runs out of acceleration lane.
Twice.
I swear by all you hold holy that the Texas "He needed Killing" law should be expanded to all 50 states, and made expressly applicable to these drivers.
And I'm really easy to get along with. Really. I am. Just ask my friend. (I'd say 'ask my wife, but she says she knows better) -
Haven't been to Texas in a while, but do remember having 4wheelers do this. Last week I was in New Brunswick, that's in Canada, and 4wheelers moved over twice for me between the border and St. John.
As far as Slohio goes, I hold my lane, I think in drivers training in that place, they're taught how to screw with bigtrucks. I swear, that must be the lonliest place in North America judging how they like to hang as close as possible to a big truck.

I understand how this might seem controversial,but what city wants you going faster than 62 through town? The people who are mad are the ones who are SPEEDING. Do these hotrods have a RIGHT TO SPEED? Most of the time I'm in the farthest left lane that's not truck prohibited. Sorry to hear about that governor.

We truckers have to realize that the general motoring public is all to often much more concerned with their coffee, cell phone, food or anything else the less experienced driver is usually preoccupied with while 'merging' onto the highway. I think that there needs to be more training for 4 wheelers before they even get their driver's license, but s#*t in one hand and wish in the other...........

Last time I checked, the YIELD sign was facing the vehicle coming onto the highway. There's no need to move over for them (unless it's a brother trucker - or sister).

It is up to the vehicle coming down the ramp to merge at a speed that matches that of the traffic.
That being said, if there's room, I move over... if not, oh well. I do not alter my speed for anyone coming down the ramp, save for a big truck on a short ramp. Hitting your brake only screws up the flow of traffic on the highwaywhen everyone else behind you sees brake lights and a chain reaction occurs.
99 percent of most four wheelers are capable of accelerating to highway speed in a very short distance. If they come down the ramp with their brake lights on next to me, they're gonna eat guard rail.
