I've transferred licenses in several states over the years and I think it was in Florida I had to take a written test and got only 1 wrong . It was regarding what to do if in the right lane on a multilane highway and was approaching an on ramp with vehicles entering . I answered move to the left if that lane was clear . Wrong answer . Correct answer is maintain lane at same speed .

Don't move to Illinois. They changed their rules May of this year. Requires all licensed drivers to take the test, written and driving when they move to Illinois.

I'll get over for a car if I can do it safely, except in Ca. there of course it is illeagle to do so. pulled over by chp and told it is the 4-wheelers job to get on the interstate, not my job to let them on. not ticketed by told it was "improper lane usage

That's so stupid. Get pulled over for being a courteous driver... California, the Please-Break-Off-Into-The-Ocean-And-Sink State.

I never have any trouble with them thar' big trucks... but my radio is usually louder than theirs and I make it clear when I'mma comin' and where I'm goin'... :smt023

Man, this has got to be one of my biggest pet peeves and will tee me off just about as quick as the buttheads who will run all the way to the front during a lane closure or merge and then just EXPECT someone to let them over. THis includes truck drivers too.

I don't get over unless I have plenty of time and room. IT IS A COURTESY!!!! NOT THE LAW!!!! There is nothing that says I HAVE to get over. It is your job to merge, not mine to help you. I get flipped off, cursed at and honked at because someone else is oblivious to the fact that it is their responsibility to merge properly and safely.

So get off your cell phone, put the newspaper, laptop, PDA, coffee and ipods down and drive responsibly.

leave that soap box there, I'll pick it up in a minute.:biggrin_25510:

Should've seen the one in Atlanta a couple weeks ago. I was going west on I-20, getting on 285 North. You all know where I'm talking about. The right 2 or 3 lanes end within about a mile. I merged over until I was in the right-most lane that didn't end, and there I stayed.

Well of course a 4-wheeler with a driver who can't read, doesn't have the sense to not pass on the right, and isn't even looking at the road ahead to see that the lane he's in is about to end, decides to pass me on the right. Mind you, I spotted him in a mirror-check a few seconds earlier, but figured he'd have the sense to get out of that lane that is ending, according to the 3 signs and 2 arrows painted on the road surface. So I put him to the back of my mind, light a Pall Mall, check my other mirror, and start looking for a decent tune on the XM.

He gets up almost even with my drives before he's driving on the solid white line, then the shoulder. At this point, he brings himself to my attention again. I start thinking, "what is that noise?" and start checking mirrors again. Sure enough, he's on the shoulder, having run out of lane, blowing his horn like a madman. There was traffic in the next lane over, nowhere I can go, nothing I can do to help this man alleviate the pain of having his cranial cavity firmly wedged in his anal orifice, so I just keep an eye on him until it finally dawns on him that maybe he should get into a lane before he hits the wall coming up where the right shoulder closes, and that it's probably not a good idea to get into that lane until adjusting his speed so that he's not literally merging (becoming one) with a truck.

    Gotta love the ATL.

I actually heard a drive safe around trucks commerical on a country radio station once in Wyoming. Said that if you want to know how to drive around trucks, ask a truck driver, and then had a few drivers give tips on safe driving around trucks. Was very surprised, I'll look for a link.
