I think I found a dangerous error in the on-line training course at the school
I am going to attend.
On this question. If your air brake system safety relief valve opens a couple of times, you should have your system repaired. FalseThe online course says false...I think the answer is true.
Every DOT CDL manual states that the compressor governor shouldstop pumping air *cut out" at 125 psi. If the governor is not workingpressure will shoot to 150 and cause the safety release valve tokick in ? ALL DOT manuals state that If the safety valve releases air, something is wrong. Have the fault fixed by a mechanic.See below...
5.1.2 - Air Compressor GovernorThe governor controls when the air compressor willpump air into the air storage tanks. When air tankpressure rises to the "cut-out" level (around 125pounds per-square-inch or "psi"), the governorstops the compressor from pumping air. When thetank pressure falls to the "cut-in" pressure (around100 psi), the governor allows the compressor tostart pumping again.
5.1.6 - Safety ValveA safety relief valve is installed in the first tank theair compressor pumps air to. The safety valveprotects the tank and the rest of the system fromtoo much pressure. The valve is usually set toopen at 150 psi. If the safety valve releases air, something is wrong. Have the fault fixed by amechanic.
- So if the compressor governor is broken or out of adjustment
the relief valve kicks in ? Is a broken or out of adjustment governor
a reason to have the fault fixed by a mechanic ?
