Sounds good, I'll never need to worry about driving in Canada anyways. Plenty of white volvo's with magic carpets hanging from the windshield that are working for peanuts.
It's bad enough here stateside, let alone up there.tscottme, ElmerFudpucker and Iamoverit Thank this. -
I am really disappointed that the FMCSA and USDOT are playing lip service to this and only going to enforce the regulations, but not correct the problem. There is no reason why there shouldn't be an immediate resolution to the problem of both the CDL problem and the language problem, while they are very quick to fix a problem under the FAA with the English only rule.Gearjammin' Penguin Thanks this. -
The economy/Capitalism is the number one priority. Profits dont care about safety, culture, counties etc. It seems many people are looking at this from a Civic Nationalist stance but our system cares only about making momey. The minority of people in the USSA are the only ones that care about the nation. Everyone else is all about revenue.

So what you are saying is that the other 98% of Canadians that speak english need to kowtow to one state, Just like we do to california? Lol.

The FMCSA's regulations (49 CFR 391.11) mandate that drivers be able to "read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public, to understand highway traffic signs and signals, to respond to official inquiries, and to make entries on reports and records".
That part isnt new. The part that IS new, and doesnt make a lick of sense I might add, is the OOS part they are talking about putting in. Do they think by putting a driver OOS that they will learn english in the next 10 hours?
In Minnesota, the driver's license written test, also known as the Class D Knowledge Exam, is available in eight languages: English, American Sign Language, Hmong, Karen, Russian, Somali, Spanish, and Vietnamese. (That isnt a misprint, Karen is a real language).
Minnesota has a population of 5.8 million. Below is percentage of this population that DOESNT speak english at all (3.5%= over 200,000). I spoke German before I spoke english. Granted, not a lot, but some (I was in Germany in 76 on REFORGER in the army and got around the country on my own just fine).
Even if these "new rules" were to actually go into effect, they would most certainly have a several year wait time for people to become complaint. Let us not forget, there is NO OFFICIAL LANGUAGE in the United States (an executive order isnt LAW). And until Congress makes it official, they really can not enforce this "order"...
