I get that the larger companies buy new and run until they are just about out of warranty. My main wonder was with all of the emissions trucks that are being sold off by the big companies and out of warranty - is it really as bad as everyone is making it out to be? By me asking some people I trust I want to say yes it is but by me looking at all of the “newer” (trucks with def and dpf) emissions trucks on the road that are out of warranty I am second guessing myself and wondering if it may just be ok to buy a newer emissions truck (out of warranty) like I said just looking at the majority that are on the road being the emissions trucks. I don’t know maybe I am just looking for justification or a breath of fresh air from some emissions truck owners that are out of factory warranty to buy a new or truck too.

Check out the Encore 2 warranty offered from Cummins. For 4000 you can get everything but the DPF and SCR covered for 2yr 200k miles. It’s the best way to protect yourself as a 2nd owner. Frankly if the engine is running properly you don’t have much trouble on these newer engines as far as emissions. If you have a major failure then the warranty kicks in that you bought. I’ve wrote extensively about it on here. PM me for a link. My experience is only with Cummins though.

“Newer” meaning atleast 2014 or younger.

Lead fuel and violent crime? Never heard that. Lol I’m sure a study could link lead fuel to high interest rates of the 70s also Lol. I don’t miss Leaded fuel it caused more problems anyway same with low sulfur and ultra low. Diesel fuels have added lubricants to replace sulfur. What I don’t like is bio diesel that’s turned out to be a loser except for the ag industry. 35 yrs and only 2 mpg at most increase isn’t enough for the added costs and safety issues caused by breakdowns it caused at first.

That’s not going to last long except for museum show Trucks. I think we are nearing the end nothing lasts forever. How many 1070s or even 1980s Trucks our there today. 57 Chevys? My Trucks 18 yrs old .Cant believe I’m running a Truck over 8 yrs old myself sometimes. MPG hits 10 or 11 ( almost there) as avg and rising fuel costs will be the end of cost efficiency for old Trucks like mine.No ones going to retro fit old Truck with newer engines.Restomod style.A big reason for all the horror stories is numbers. Same reason people are afraid of big cities they hear killings everyday.Put a million or more people together so close and someone’s gonna get killed every day. Percentage wise like highway accidents or airplanes etc . Perception is Reality. I see enough bad examples of emission related disasters I can’t afford running only 1 Truck. It will change fast I remember when all computer engines ( the ones heralded as the best today) were considered new crap.”Mechanical only for me “was tha Mantra

I look at it like this. I take more time off by offsetting costs doing my own work. A week off that includes a day working on Truck saving me $ 500 bucks has always worked well for me.Id be ahead paying and working that week yes but as some have said time is money. Time off is worth the money to me .Any Job that requires working all the time isn’t worth having. And if I had to work more than 70 hrs a week to live I’d be searching for another Occcupation long ago. Work to live not Live to Work. Trucking just plain takes up too much of your life if you don’t really watch it. Unless it’s what you want.

Biofuel doesn't get you 2 mpg better, in fact it gets you worse fuel economy in experience.

I hear more old guys saying there's more 80s trucks on the road now than they've seen in 15 years. I know one place has 2 80s pete cabovers they run around with. You go down to Goodland, KS theres a guy pulling a cattle pot with what looks like a 70s Pete. 57 Chevys, you can literally buy an all new body for 57 Chevy.
