I've seen a couple of ads for jobs saying that they will take 6 months experience.

Most of you newbies think that you can come here to the oilfields and get a job ' just delivering water' no big deal right? We have a guy at my company with an unbelievable 10,000 miles under his belt and with an attitude that he's all that, and a bag of chips, and he gets kicked off on our current frac site because ####### IS HOLDING UP THE FRAC BECAUSE ####### CANT BACK UP A FREAKIN '40 trailer to save his life.

Do me a favor, actually do the two years OTR and learn how to back properly. There are no shortcuts

So you're gonna judge all of the newbies on the actions of this one guy? It doesn't take years OTR to learn the skills of driving in the oil field.

To all the newbies reading this I would say: ignore this mans comments and FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS. One of Rockdoctors threads said the same thing and inspired me to ignore the naysayers and continue to follow mine.

For those of you wanting to know, I am living in San Angelo and working in Big Lake. I'm not going to mention the company name just yet, or maybe ever...lol.

There seems to be some companies moving closer to San Angelo. It's a long drive from here to Big Lake and they are having trouble finding people willing to commute that far everyday. There are yards opening up to the west and north of town, possibly elsewhere as well but I haven't been out to other areas yet. The company that I am working for is looking to open a yard closer to my town and that's the only reason I signed on with them. If, after a year they haven't opened a yard then I will try to find something else closer, or possibly buy a place closer to Big Lake, but property out here has gone up and most places are probably jacked up more than they would normally be worth.

There are two companies on my way to work that have banners up saying that they are hiring CDL drivers. Not sure what the name of the companies are. One of them looks like they do a lot more than just trucking, like they drill the wells and such. No telling what they might have you doing when you're not driving.

So what you really mean is that the reason that Sunoco Logistics, Sun Coast and Nabors, just to mention a few companies, are hiring grads from CDL school is because they do not benefit from your obviously immense wisdom?

Well now, I am sure that all of them will suffer a huge and catastrophic conflagration sometime in the next 36 hours or so, largely due to a rookie driver not quite having mastered the art of backing up a 40' trailer. The whole trucking/fracking industry will collapse, just because NO ONE LISTENED TO YOU.

Oh, the humanity! What would we do without leaders like you?

    /sarcasm off

I gotta take issue with your refusal to provide the name of your employer. When I moved to the patch I used this forum for help and now that I've been here for a little while I try to help others attempting to do what I did. For you to withhold info in a forum intended to help others, especially after you came here asking for help isn't very kosher.

Had my physical this morning. Got a fresh 2 yr. med card. They had me do "work steps" and all that. If you don't know, that's where they have you do different exercises and then take your pulse after each one. This one was quiet a bit more involved than others that I've taken in the past. If you have health problems you might want to take that into consideration.

I should start my training on Mon. or possibly later this week. I will post here after the first day to let everyone know how it went.
