I use to say the same thing until I seen how much fuel I saved doing 60. Then I realized how I can stay in the right lane and not have to worry about getting in people's way when I need to pass a prime, roehl, swift and any other truck that does less then 65. I also don't run up on those guys on 2 lanes roads either. I'm sure my blood pressure has leveled out since I slowed down. Funny thing is I drove 60 for my last company I was with and 62 for JB for 3 years. So set the cruise on 60 and let everybody else work.
Funny thing today on 287 a guy jumped in front of me and he would go 65 then 55. He couldn't make up his mind. Next thing I know there's a convoy of trucks behind us. There was some pretty good stretches where the guys with large cars passed us and the 2 trucks that were behind us. Then on one of the passing lanes I moved over to let a guy pass me, and a flat bed with a wideeeee load wouldn't let me get back in the lane so. I was cool with that. This dude was wide and he kept sticking his nose out to pass the I can't make up my mind what speed I want to do truck with half his load in the other lane. He finally passed him. That dude was in a hurry. We finally make it to 70 and dude is sitting in a mile or so back up at the scale. Him and all the other guys who passed us. I got the green light and they closed the scale so Mr I can't make up my mind didn't have to go in either. I use to love all those dudes passing on the long bridge in Louisiana by the time you get to the scale it's filled with all the large cars and you keep on going. As Cranky Said. Tortoise and the Hare all day baby!! -

1983 I started as a Carhauler with Anchor Motor Freight. Went from driving high powered (for the time) KW's to driving Anchor's junk. A Chevy Titan 90 with a 6 cyl. 238 non turbo Detroit and 10 speed. Coming out of Linden, NJ or Tarrytown, NY GM Assembly heading west on 80. It would take 8 solid hours to cross PA. The same trucks would pass 2 or 3 times. Laugh all you want, I made a ton of dough driving that pile of $heet.Shaggy Thanks this. -
I was talking with one of those slow Prime drivers a few days ago, and I asked him "How can you stand to drive so slow day in and day out."
Well he replied to me, "I've been doing this for Prime for almost 6 years now."
I gasped, "6 years, I just don't understand."
He said, "Yes sir, and just as soon as I finish this first load I took, I'm going to quit."
'DAX_, Lux Prometheus, X-Country and 20 others Thank this. -
It's a well known fact that a slow & steady driver will beat a fast driver almost every time. Used to run with a guy that had a pretty fast unit....his favorite saying was as we were walking across the lot and a plane flew overhead..."EVERY DANG TIME I STOP THAT HAND CATCHES ME"....

I just wish those clowns would do somewhere near the speed limit on two-lane highways. It irks me when I get stuck behind one of these rolling roadblocks on a two-lane. Run as slow as you want on the interstate, but don't subject the rest of us to your speed limit otherwise.
Wingnut1, 6 Speed, sevenmph and 1 other person Thank this. -
Joetro, Dinomite and NavigatorWife Thank this.
