I am working on a step by step directions with photos for new flatbedders. I already have the pictures for tarp folding, I'd like to do some for securing different loads too. I know some companies more or less just leave new guys to it, plus it will help people thinking about coming to the dark side see whats what. I by no means claim to be an expert on anything, but I'd like to do my part to help new drivers out.

If I had some pictures I would gladly post them. But I do not. I learned it all out of a Keller DOT Hand book, lots of pictures! I modified their steps by always throwing an extra strap or chain, or two or three for that matter, depending on the load and terrain to be encountered.

The best advice I think that anyone can give a new flat bedder is this... Drive the load, not the truck.

Just out of curiosity here, how much do some of the tarps that you guys use weigh?

Flat bedding is a learning curve. No matter how much you acquire either from others or just plain experience, expect to learn more as you continue.

    Speaking of folding tarps....
I have two sets (4' and 8') and a smoke tarp. They go into my trailer boxes and have to be folded a certain way or they won't fit and the doors won't close. The straps, chains, binders all go into the bins and boxes on the rig. The only things that stay out are dunnage and the ladders under the trailer locked to the frame.

Then I'll never be able to do flatbed. Those weigh almost as much as I do!
