If you are in California and any permit for a city or county is more expensive than the state permit.. That is illegal. Doug Murray from Murray trailers has their own heavy truck company. They took the cities and counties to court over the over charging. The courts came out and ruled that if the state charges 19 dollars, the other permits inside the state can not be more than 19 dollars. Last I heard some were ignoring this . I think it was Beverly Hills was charging over 100 dollars. If ou are over charged.. Pay it and contact murray at murray trailers in Stockton, Ca. He will tell you all about the ruling and can turn you on to be able to force a refund from that city or county. We pay enough let alone some that want more .

why should youhave to buy a permit in the first place.

1 state permit outta be enough like the rest of the states. buying a city and county permit is a bunch of BS. OR, having to have a permit JUST TO PARK becuase you dn't have the 2 PERMITS needed to roll.

Bakersfield requires a day permit deliver within the city limits...standard equipment, not oversize or o/w, haven't heard anything about enforcing the BS....our company got a fleet permit annual rate. We do quite a bit of work in and around Bakersfield.

What do you mean "One state permit outta be enough like the rest of the states"? A lot of places around the country require city and or county permits. Do you know what the City of Philidelphia does to you when you don't have a city permit? I do. They impound your truck, then you have to pay an $1100 fine, a $300 impound fee, you have to buy a new Pennsylvania permit and you still have to get a city permit.

A lot of permits say right on them "Not good for city streets and county roads, additional permits may be required".

And just how many read the whole permit? And how many cities and counties think you are a mind reader and they don't tell you that you need a local permit... But you are supposed to know. So here's your ticket. Then there is Port Hueneme. Last time I was there.. They wouldn't fax a permit. And no truck parking, so if you wanted a permit. Somebody would have to get in a car, drive down to the permit office and pick up the permit. And your not from there and have a truck... So you have to hire somebody to do it, or get a taxi.

Last time I had a load in Seattle you had to call the police and get a number.. Without that number.. Ticket time. Oregon unless they have changed you have some county permits.

Lets see, NYC, Baltimore, Portsmouth, Norfolk, Virginia Beach some places in Oh and Michigan ect ect the list goes on and most of these little towns charge more for the permits than the state issue permits plus put wild restrictions on them, Sufflok Va need a pilot car for 10 miles of town over 10 wide takes 72 hours to get the permit
