Been driving 2006 on and off, right now I am hauling LTL and looking to hire on with a major company, but a year ago (today, actually) I had an accident. I was taking the off ramp from I-80/94 East to I-65 South and it was an ice skating rink. I slid trying to avoid a car and ended up with my rig sitting 90° across the ramp and into the center barrier, after which an OTR driver came along and t-boned me. No citations were issued, no injuries, and I got a day and ½ off from the company. The union rep said the company was going to call it a major preventable, but only by virtue of the fact that the damage to the rig was over $10,000 and I never saw any paperwork on it. I don't even think the trooper filed a report on it and I just got a new copy of my DAC which lists every ticket I've gotten for the last 25 years, but not this.
So with no report from the cops and nothing on my DAC, should I disclose this? I want to be honest, but I also don't want to raise an issue where there is none.
If it's not on my DAC, should I disclose it?

DAC is not the only report a carrier can get. Best is thing is to tell the truth...or always wonder when they will find out. Nothing worse than being approached by your boss and he says..."Hey why didn't you...."
Dinomite and Tonythetruckerdude Thank this. -
Of course you should report it. I don't think one accident in six years would effect your ability to get any job. But, not reporting it will get you fired and then you will get a major hit on your DAC from the new employer.

Yes , make sure they have it on written record ,it may prevent a nasty situation in the future

It's not your DAC I'd be worried about. I'd be more concerned with what's on your MVR. You can roll the dice and not disclose. Wait for a potential employer to pull your MVR. You'll know pretty fast if they find out about it.
-
I would include it even though it was 6 years ago if that employer is in 10 year range it could be disclosed to new employer. You wouldn't have to worry about csa sata base so that's a good thing. But like mentioned before I would pull a 10 year mvr. Most only go by last 5 years and if it's not there you should be golden.

The incident might get noted in an employment verification response. A lot of places will document everything into an employee "file" regardless of whether or not they subscribe and report to DAC or HireRight

Always be honest to CYA in case of the inevitable fatality lawsuit. The application you must answer truthfully as your signature certifies everything to be true and correct.
One accident won't hurt you unless you demonstrated gross negligence like a road rage incident or reckless driving.Tonythetruckerdude Thanks this. -
The rule is. Be honest and say "to the best of my knowledge." If you are involved in a fatal acident, say to the cop, I am willing to co-operate fully with your investigation but I want to consult my lawyer before answering any questions. The reason is if you say anything and it changes later and you go to court, the Cop will say, "He established himself as a liar first thing so what can we believe? He is not a credible witness. Who is the judge going to believe you think? Learn to CYA!

I wouldn't mention it. There's no record of it if you weren't cited.
x#1 Thanks this.
