If I've NEVER had a CDL but have two DUI'S, can I apply to get a CDL? (Virginia)

Contact a cdl school in Virginia and ask.

 

I gave you the answer in the thread you resurrected asking that same question!

 

Someone at the school is too lazy to give a straight answer.
Contact the DMV then and if the answer isn't good, attend school in another state and get a license there.

 

You DO NOT have to contact Virginia DMV. I also live in Virginia. If you currently have a regular Virginia-issued Drivers License with no restrictions on it example SR22/SR26. YOU ARE FULLY QUALIFIED TO REQUEST A CDL! For purposes of getting a DL/CDL there is no real difference between them. The primary issue is can you get hired afterward.

 

Yes you can get a CDL. But the problem will be finding a company that will hire you. Most higher pay companies require no dui ever. Some will tolerate 1 if its older than 10 yrs. But 2 whew, even if you get your own truck, trl, and authority. Your insurance will be quite high.

I ASK from experience. My LAST DUI was August 1991, North Carolina.
I had to WAIT until 8/94 to APPLY for a License AND to August 1998 to be "cleared" to acquire a Class-A, per NC requirements. I quit Alcohol through a 30 day stay in a Treatment Center in '92.

2 Convictions will be a PROBLEM.
IF you have Quit Alcohol, it "might" give some leeway if you went through a program, however such may well have zero impact.

NOT in Virginia. If the OP has a fully unrestricted DL the OP can get a CDL here! I live here and deal with this from time to time. I'm not fully privy about NC, but the OP lives in Virginia Not NC. The points being fully unrestricted and as I mentioned and another said, the primary issue is getting hired later.

I do agree with one point you made. The time frame is critical. 20-year-old DUIs means almost nothing today. A DUI 2 or 3 years ago much more so!

 

He won't have any trouble finding a job, unless the DUI's are recent. Even then there's 1099 companies that will hire him.
