If money wasn't an issue, the answer is no. That's just my common sense opinion. However, money is an issue. I'm sure it is for most of us out here driving. I work to provide my family. Some consider trucking as a lifestyle. Not me. My lifestyle is what I do outside of my career. I enjoy my local job grossing 80K plus a year. But I am a Union tanker driver, home every night and Union drivers are frowned upon on this website.

This is not a "lifestyle", this is a business! If you think otherwise you are a fool.

Would I stay out here if I was independently wealthy, hell no! I would find something to do at the house where I could be home and sleep next to my wife every night.

I think it's great your making good money and home nightly with the family. I'm not a union guy but I would have to say that the trucking industry needs better representation for truck drivers.

Well sorry super trucker but I do my job for the money and benefits. Started in 1989 and maybe then it was a lifestyle but since then it's became a career. Do I love it? No. Do I like it? Sometimes.

Yeah do this job because I wanted to see the US as well. I still get contacted from companies who would like to hire me as a senior programmer making $70k+ per year, but I am tired of all of the stress and typing for 14 hours straight every day (even off the clock you still work to finish a project that is due). I hardly spend my trucking checks, I just let them stack up in one of my bank accounts and use the money that my business generates to pay bills. It would be nice if we could drop our trailers at all truck stops and bobtail off the clock though. I know some owner operators using paper logs can do that at some places.
