I fully understand what you are saying. I get it. I used to own a racecar so I too like to go fast

The history behind Australia moving to speed limited heavy vehicles stems from many issues over many years and ALL to do with road deaths, there were 2 significant heavy vehicle crashes in New South Wales in the 1980's, plus we have/had a section of road that was called 'Sesame Street', it is the Hume Highway that runs from Melbourne to Sydney, some 500 miles. Some drivers/companies would leave late, running express freight and expect to arrive early at the other end. These trucks were doing big speeds on roads that just weren't designed for the speeds they were traveling at, the Hume Highway back in the 1980's was mostly single lane, it is now all freeway

One of the HV crashes - Kempsey bus crash - Wikipedia

Another one - Grafton bus crash - Wikipedia

A monument to truck drivers killed on the job. The monument is located on 'Sesame' Street (Hume Highway) - Home

Pulling 3 trailers across 1000km dirt road a speed limit seems irrelevant…..

does anyone get a speeding ticket in the outback?

No, in fact that makes it much more important that all traffic on the roadway be operating at the same speed.

I usually follow the posted speed, within a couple miles per hour.

    So, who is joking?
Is it the people setting the speed limit, or the drivers that refuse to drive safely?
