Leasing is a risky proposition there. The best way to make money is to train. CRST is a team company so an L/p who is willing to train can make some serious cash. However, getting started is the hard part. You don't pik your truck and often that 2 wee grace period they give you to get started gets eaten up in the shop getting the truck road ready. Also keep in mind you are leasing a 3 yeard old truck...not bad..until you consider it has the mileage of a 6 year old truck that has been beat to death by students and new drivers
if u go to crst with a cdl...what can u expect to make?

I am half way through my lp orientation with crst malone. It seems like a different company due to the owner operator and lp being the only type of driver allowed in this division. Crst malone is the only flatbed division. I learned today why flatbeders earn more than most van drivers. its alot of physical labor and extra skill set needed to properly secure and tarp loads. We learn how to do dispatching tommorrow. I will get to pick my own loads, no forced dispatch. Hometime whenever desired. Lots of freedom to run when and where I want. the pay is 75% of the load minus :$280 trctor pymnt, $185 trlr pymnt, fuel advances after fsc, $75 equipment pymnt, $.12 per mile bumper to bumper maintenance and a couple hundered for all registration, taxes, tags and insurances. These weekly deductions last the 3yr term of the lease. The maintence warranty is good for full coverage the first two years of the lease. And drops to preventive maintence only the last year. I expect frieght rates to change about every 2-4 months. During the lease im looking to net $800-$2000 per week. after the truck is paid off with the $5000 end of lease ballon pymnt, I will be a true owner operator and keep myweekly $280 tractor payment. They dont sell trailer only rent and maintain them. the $75 equipment paynmnt stops after you pay $2700 for all of your securment items. maybe this info will help shine a small light on the shadowy subject of lease purchase with crst malone.

l/p on the flatbed side is a sure way to lose your home and car...pay is not consistant at all after deductions... i ran 2700 miles total income b4 dedutions to the truck was 2837.16 after ded. i cleared 824.94 that week i ran 3 trips. The following week i ran 2200 miles and ran 2 trips and cleared 155.00 both weeks i took a 50.00 cash advance. My 1st two checks were in the negative and they hadnt started taking my truck note out UNTIL the 3rd week witch was then i bought home the check for 824.in the 5 weeks of employment with crst malone my ytd say 10,535.53 i have only seen about 1000.00 of that in my hands.flatbed is by far the hardest work in trucking, there is no excuse for this compay to give a driver the run around about there pay checks when the loads are being delivered.

Can someone tell me what "CRST" abbreviates? For some reason, my wife & I both thought it was "Carey R Stevens Trucking". But later I found out the main office is in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.... so, I done some research on line & ... even going to their website didn't reveal the long name of the company. I am now wondering if it isn't Cedar Rapids (something) Trucking.
Thanks -
Cedar Rapids Steel Transport. When the company started they primarily hauled steel...thus the name. However there are many more much more creative names out there
