Then why do I need to be mandated as to when to take a break/go to sleep. After 11 years of driving I am looking to give the "profesion" of trucking up. As of 2 weeks ago the e log monster showed up in my truck, admittedly I am what ya call a "cowboy" trucker. Oh and before the safety patrol comes out preachin, I'm accident free in my 11 years of being on the road. I believe I'm gonna have to hang up my "spurs" and find an exit out of the game of trucking.
If we are supposed to be these "profesionals"...

I do believe if I get out of my truck I will miss it terribly. The old saying goes....."get with it or get lost", I ain't with it so........ But yes wargames the advice of not rushin it is good advice and well taken.
Wargames Thanks this. -
I heard that truck drivers are pretty good at catching crappie......
Good Luck !!!!trucker_101, Wargames and BigJohn54 Thank this. -
Yeah it sucks that the government tells you when to sleep, yet doctors routinely operate on people after having been up for very long periods of time.

It's all about control and $$$$......

Most jobs tell you when to punch in, punch out, take a break and have meals...Not saying, just saying....There are still plenty of companies using paper logs, why not just go with one of those, your experience should make it easy getting on with one...
You're in KY like me, call Watkins Shepard, I have NO complaints and they keep you busy as you want to be...Terminal is in Richmond...PM me for my cell and if you have any questions about them... -
Thanks walstib, but I'm not interested in otr. And I understand what you are getting at about companies telling you when to punch in and out. The issue I have is being MADE to take a break at a time when I'm not nessesarily tired....only to turn around and being FORCED to drive when I'm tired because the "clock" is ticking. But hey there are certain ones that are programed/brainwashed to think the government knows best.....I'm not of them. By the way....I'm not directing negative comments your way walstib.
BigJohn54 Thanks this. -
I miss the old HOS without that #### 14hr clock. If anything that's anti safety because it discourages you from taking breaks along the way lest you take time away from your 14. Back in the day I would take a breather in between my break periods, now I can't unless I want to run out of time. Explain to me how having drivers drive nonstop for 11 hrs because they have only 3 hrs to spare is "safe"?
FWIW, I think European drivers are REQUIRED to take short breaks during their drive time. Something like 15min every 2 hrs. Not really feasible in areas like the Southwest where towns can be more than 2 hrs far apart but it's just the idea of it. -
I'm with ya packrat.....what's scary is how many people on this board and elsewhere have been brainwashed into beleiving that is being "safety consious". But that's for another thread I guess.
