Why don't these lunatics ever possess any punctuation skills?

    PREACH IT BROTHA, PREACH IT!!

i loved the cold weather when I was a kid. I have already needed to be a snow bird for a couple of years. Can't get my old lady convinced to move somewhere warm and affordable.

So the original poster suggests that you drive local for a year or two. Ah.....No. Drive local for a year or more with a CDL class A if you want. BUT just remember, if you then want to go OTR, you will most likely have to go through a 160 hour school to qualify for OTR.

If someone has a good local job, why would they ever want to go OTR?

No you won't. You would have to start at the bottom and go out with a trainer to learn OTR, but you would definitely NOT have to retake the160 hour course under any ccircumstances. Even if you stopped driving completely for years, you would only need a refresher

    Hello teqntexas,

May I ask what company you work for? How much experience did you need. For me, being home every night would be great. I'm just trying to find a company right now that will give me some experience. Thanks.

Back when I started this used to be true, but with driver shortages many companies now will hire and train student drivers when they never used too before.

Company's where hiring part time only way before Obama came into office. They have always done that to not pay health benefits. Save the company millions.

If you catch the right company, at the right time, they will hire anyone... My company even has an apprenticeship now. Local jobs that pay, have a hard time keeping drivers , because most drivers just want to hold a steering wheele. Food service is "semi local" most of my routes are a day and a half, Then 2 days off. I average about 33/hr. But it is labor intensive.... My 2 cents; get paid for what you do, and do what you get paid for.
