If you back into something and hit it, is it a preventable accident if there is no damage?

I yard spot. If I hit something, no matter the damage I have to report it. Why? 1) It is the right thing to do and 2) cameras everywhere at my facility.

My question is though you said he hit it pretty hard, but no damage. Just how hard is pretty hard? If there is no damage are you sure he even hit it and not just come close? If you are the worried about it report it to the warehouse supervisior. They may do a report or not, depending on the drivers record, or they may just thank you for the info and say they will take care of it, all the while thinking you are a nosy busy body.

Spotters are bound to bump into stuff. Heck I took out a stop sign in Denver. Like my 3rd load ever lol Got off wrong exit not too far east of the Pilot on the North Side of town. Oh well nobody saw it. Only a fool would turn himself in. Learn from mistakes is all you can ask for.

Yard dogs didn't see or feel anything so for the most part they get away with it.But if there's no damage I don't see any reason to tell your company what happened.

    It is preventable.

If there is no damage why report it?

I have learned that even with no damage I wouldn't get a safety bonus.

No harm, no foul, no need to know.

I'm glad yard spotters hit trailers. You can always blame them.

The trick is, if you damage a trailer, write it up on a pre-trip inspection. This way, no one knows who to blame.

Same thing goes for a hole in the roof of a trailer. That is ALWAYS the forklift driver. But how many times have you seen a forklift driver raise his hand and say, yeah I did it ? NEVER.

I fessed up to it, when I installed a trailer skylight way back in the day working the receiving dock.... Wasn't actually MY fault, the hydraulic controls were prone to sticking on that particular forktruck, and maintenance refused to fix it.

So you poked a hole in the trailer while cutting a hole in the trailer. Appreciate your post. Thanks.
