I was referring to the dot inspection being the only one that really mattered in terms of getting dot inspected at a scale house or what not. You won't get csa points for a late knight insp.
If you could improve 1 thing at Knight, what would that be?

I wholeheartedly agree with this. Sometimes its like Knight is just a collection of small companies that drive the same color trucks. And it often feels like terminals outside of your home terminal are just places to park.OverDrive Thanks this.

This seems strange to me. When a person goes to work for someone else, there is no expectation that the new employee can 'refuse to accept' a job assignment. To do so would mean a very short-lived employment history...except in trucking, where we think being able to turn down a job assignment (a load) as a company employee is somehow a good thing. Negotiate a load? Sure; drivers have made points about doing that. But refusing a load? To me, that is totally unacceptable. I've never done it and never will.
-
I have flat out refused loads when they send me into a area that has nothing coming out for the next 2 days. There is legitimate reasons to refuse loads. But refusing a load for the sake of refusing it has never happened with me. Anytime I have had to refuse a load with Knight I simply explained my reasons to my DM.OverDrive Thanks this.

You go pull that load into L.A. on a holiday weekend and sit for the next 6 days.

As I said, only in trucking is refusing a work assignment allowed. In my previous life as a manager, if an employee refused to do a valid assignment, no matter what day or time or perceived "injustice," that person would be taken off the schedule and sent home.

I refused maybe 3 loads being with Knight for 5 yrs.
Loads that took me away from plans given 2 weeks ahead of time that would put me, as said by others, 'sitting in Fontana yard with no necessities for days w/o an MT that another trucker could have taken but their 'local favorites' in the area were not given!
As said b4 in regards to turning down another load: I had an MRI scheduled in Phx on a Mon morning that was in regards to a work-related injury (torn rotator cuff) and scheduled 3 weeks in advance, where my DM set me up with loads over the weekend that would have gotten me back to Phx Sun night---the return load was 'pulled off' of me Sat by the S.CA dispatcher, I was given (no PP but was put on me) a load up N. CA which I took knowing that bringing that load back to Conagra in Rancho Couc would have left me w/o an MT and stuck in Fontana, out of hours, and no MT to get a load out! I took the Conagra load, but after sitting in Fontana w/no MT, and asking for permission to bobtail back to Phx while I had hours left (I refused running all over L.A. looking for an MT and then being out of hours for a return to Phx), and was turned down, I did bobtail back to Phx having enuf hours to be 'legal' when crossing the AZ scales. Was called in Mon morning b4 my MRI appmt by my DM (who was a 'Knight son') and explained the situation, who just said "Dont do that again." End of conversation......he knew that I was right!
There ARE reasons to refuse a load esp when they sell new drivers with "No Forced Dispatch!"

In local work you dont get a assignment that will screw you from getting paid the next 2 days.
You are trying to compare very different industry's. Its apples to oranges.Wizard Bill Thanks this. -
Only in trucking you aren't paid per hour.lcfd15 Thanks this.
