I have a Volvo. It has 2 beds. Bottom beds turns into 2 benches and a table. I use it as a table all the time and sleep up top. We need shelves, everywhere, if there is space there could be a shelf. Every space should be usable!

Drive on the 287 in Amarillo heading north....there's a series of about 12 lights......You can time them to hit every green........

    In regards to the pro-star.
They have that stupid hanging cabinet behind the bunk.
This is the most useless piece of garbage that I have ever seen. Actually it is in the 9400's also.
If they want to use that space they should make it into a box cabinet with shelving and fronts on the shelves to keep the stuff in them. Then use the same type double doors they do now on the front.
This way you can put all your small spare items and other things on these shelves (basically pockets). Maybe make a few of them to where they can hold paperwork and such as well.
This way we can store spare showering items, light bulbs, and other small truck parts. And anything else we can think of.
Right now we have to put them in drawers and dig for them, or in boxes and dig.
This would use a space that is already in the sleeper design on their trucks, to a much better use.

Pull out drawers under the bunk of an international would be good also. Right now they have that large area in the middle of the bunk that is open. I just shove bags under it. But if they have pull out drawers I would put all that stuff in there, and not in bags.

    Hey everyone,

    Its Steve,
Thanks for all the great posts, they are a great help to our projects and will be a great help to truckers across the nation. I've taken down a few more bullet points from updated posts:

-Pneumatic clutch pedals & a better air conditioning system that lasts longer than 50,000 miles
-I'm sorry however, these two are out of our line of work and more in engineering although we will mention these problems to Navistar when they review our work and we will show them this blog so that they can get some ideas as well.

-lots of storage -customizable and movable to fit individual driver needs
-Lots of shelves with containment rails
-Current storage under bed is not usable in Prostar -pull out drawer/fridge would be best
-Transformable sleeping area into eating table/sleeping area
    -Fold up bunks
-cooking area with cutting area & stove top
    -Sink/Shower/Toilet all in one
    -Better gauge and switch placement
    -Larger windows
    -More comfortable drivers seat
    -inverters

Here is a seat technology I've found that cancels out road bumps. Would this make your ride any more comfortable or are the bumps exaggerated in the film? Would what the seat is made out of be more important than canceling bumps? - http://www.bose.com/controller?url=/bose_ride_system/index.jsp

Also what do all of you think about having pop out sides like an RV to expand the living area in the truck while parked? It would increase the cost quite a bit but would it still be worth it to you?

Thank you again for all of your posts and keep them coming!

Heres a link to previous work I've done and soon to come Semi truck interior sketches

A potty and holding tank would be the next era of trucking. Rest area's have clean outs and truck stops could incorporate them if they don't have them all ready.
The potty's surrounding area should be materials that could easily be cleaned. Keep in mind drivers quit all the time and someone else will be dealing with the last guys mess.

Another thing is a pull out desk. Volvo's have them. I use a folding TV dinner table now. Problem is sitting on the bunk bed, which is too high for a comfortable seat plus the metal frame digs in the back of your legs. Lower the bed a tad and cushion the frame so you have a better seat.

Factory installed GPS with truck routing and yellow page friendly which I have. It would be nice to step it up a notch with traffic jam notifications and truck friendly detours.

snipped from the above web site.
Ouch! Now that's a serious cost for a seat. I'm not sure that the technology behind that is worth $6K. :biggrin_25524:

Trucking companies are NOT going to spend that much for one seat.

So you might want to add "affordable" to your list. :biggrin_25525:

With regard to the pull out refridgerated drawer under the bunk, make sure it has good thermal insulation ! Volvo had to recall a lot in Europe due to condensation on the hard surface between the drawer & the mattress ! Condensation there leads to MOLD on ou mattress & thats not good so they place an Alaminium barrier there to cure that problem.
How about roof vents ? Had those in Europe too & they give awesome ventilation while driving ? Have to be electric & a switch on the dash but its much better than having your window open & the wind howling in your ear !

A couple touch screen similiar to a GPS and set up similiar to a Windows desktop, where I could pull up, shut down, drag across the screen, etc, etc. I would have two screens, one for all my guages and one for all my switches and other operations such as a/c heat, radio, etc. Outside the screens, the only thing in the truck would be my pedals, steering wheels, gear shifter.

    For the switches,
I could keep the touch screen switches that I need, such as interior lights, exterior lights, wipers, jake brakes, cruise etc, roll up windors, parking brake release, etc. on the screen but put other swithes that I won't use away, such as mirror heater switch on a bright sunny day, or mirror adjustments, suspension drop, axle locks, a/c heat, etc, etc, etc. I would want to be able to drag the switches whereever on the screen and also be able to make the switches bigger or smaller to whatever size I want. For example, if it's day, I might want to keep the light switches smaller like a .5" touch area, yet I might want huge 3" cruise control switches.

Same thing on the guage panel. If I want the GPS larger, I could expand it, drag in the middle of the screen, or maybe I'm having overheating problems, I could open up and make a huge Water and Oil temp guages. If I change seating positions, or steering wheel position, I could drag the guages so they are back in my viewing again.

I would like almost all of the air lines, and wires behind the dash gone. I don't want or need a dozen different interior lights. One for the cab, and one in the sleeper berth. I don't want wires running all over the cab and if I do, I'll put them in so just one 12volt terminal coming out of the dash.

I want a modular interior. I don't want drawers and cabinets. A couple modular shelves or boxes that I can buy at any dealer and mount in the cab any ole way. Similar to a peg board. I don't want lines or curves. I want something that is very simple, functional, and robust.

I want 4 firm-a-flex A/C, heat, duct hoses coming out the middle so I can aim and position the air anyway I want.

I want a simple windshield that is clamped in by wingnuts, so if one gets cracked, I can replace it myself in 30 seconds.

Some cloth or vinyl, over insulation, over a plastic/coardboard, thin plywood, backing, similiar to the way headliners are made, or even interior panels of trucks today, but I don't want a bunch of trim pieces covering the edges. Just make the panels fit close enough in the corners to begin with. Doesn't have to be perfect, just close enough so you don't loose a lot insulation. That way I don't have to mess with a bunch of screws that only strip out in a few years anyway. I just want about 4-8 simple screws holding the covered insulated panel in. I want it simple, so in a few years if I need to replace the covering, I can go to a fabric store, pick up some new foam, vinyl, and some type of back paneling and just rough it in myself, without having to figure out all the trim pieces.

The door......I want a simple door with flap windows like a jeep. I want a simple cam lever to close the door. That way it's locked from the inside and the more I slide the lever down, the more it tightens up that door. On the outside, I want just a simple lock/latch (like a shed) so I can just put a padlock on. I want nothing on the inside of the door except insulation foam. No rods, plastic clips, window mechanisms, etc, etc.

That's what I want, oh and I just want it in Black. I don't want or need imitation wood or carbon fiber trim. Keep it simple. Black, on Black, on Black. That way if anything needs cleaned up, or something gets scratched up, I can buy black spray paint at Walmart for .98cents a can, or buy cheap black vinyl for the walls, or cheap carpet or vinyl for the floor.

    Thanks for listening.
