You have not been the subject of the DOT and their ways when protected by an office.

I have friends in the police departments and even as ISP. But, even they think some of the DOT is foolish.

No doubt they're foolish sometimes, every organization will be from time to time. People are flawed and views can change over time. So when SM suggested that drivers "police the police" I tend to agree with him. It's easy to be led astray, and from time to time people need a slap in the face from reality. It's good for all of us, I know from past experience that when I get too comfortable and over confident in my role. I have often overstepped my bounds and lived with delusions of grandeur. It's caught up with me a time or two, now I realize it and try to control it. I end up holding back and seconding guessing myself, probably not living up to my full potential.

Anyways, crazy time is about done for me. Point was, everyone needs to be called to task from time to time.

Although I do agree with the premise of your rebuttal, and I as an O/O, small fleet owner, have and will continue to try and see both sides of the issue.

However, law enforcement is paid to do a job, no different that the rest of us, if they are derelict in their duties, or make a bad call, WHY should they not have some form of cost to them, just as we all do???

IF this was the case, I would have a lot more respect for someone under those circumstances than I do now, where no matter how bad they botch a call, THEY STILL GET PAID!

This type of setup actually encourages these people to take their job less seriously and allows questionable practices to remain for long periods of time.

Going to court is part of their duties. If they're required to pay when they go to court and lose, or go without pay while attending court and not losing it will really not be about safety. If you penalize someone for doing their job they'll stop doing their job, numbers will go up and pushes will be made for more regulation.

If they were held responsible for their actions like we are, then if they issue a warning or ticket or false activity, and we fight them and they lose, it should come from them personally. My ticket if I get one comes from me. I risk it, so are they.

that reminds me of district attorneys and prosecutors that purposely convict innocent people, for political gain, but are insulated against punishment for these crimes

society doesnt realize it creates monsters, and monsters are never good

but herein lies the contradiction of "innocent until proven guilty"

if you get accused of a crime, YOU have to pay the lawyer to defend you, and YOU LOSE TIME AND MONEY

how is that, in any sense, innocent until PROVEN guilty? you are guilty until you can cough up enough money to prove your innocence, especially when it comes to traffic/DOT matters

fair would be that state reimburse you for costs and time in defending yourself from their false accusations

Why do you like to keep calling people "son"?? Does it make you feel like you have some sort of power or feel superior to them??
