Everyone has a boss, or at least someone above them to whom they must be accountable. LEOs are no different.

If a LEO "botches a call" once in a while, sure, they may still get paid and get away with it. But if it happens again, and again, and again... that LEO will be held accountable. Demotions, transfers, unpaid leave, and even termination can result from making "bad calls." And the thing that can start that accountability ball rolling is when someone they have wronged makes a formal complaint to that officer's superiors that makes them aware that they have a problem with that officer. Nothing will be done about a bad officer as long as everybody just takes it and complains to everybody except the ones who can do something about it.

Let's leave the officer out of it for a second,

Do you think that it is totally fair that if I get a ticket, that was a judgement call, and I take it to court and prevail, I should still be out my time, my fuel, my expense, my lost wages, etc,

    To prove I was innocent?

My problem with all of this is that when it is a judgement call or opinion, it is now violating a right we are entitled too. Being innocent until proven guilty. But, in order to fight this, the person violating our rights is not held to the same financial responsibility that we are.

I remember when a police officer years ago, stated I was driving too fast for conditions because he was sliding all over the road to catch me. I was only running 13 mph. It was his opinion. It was a snow packed road and the speed limit was 20.

I went to court. I had to take time away from work and risked my insurance being raised because of his opinion.

Now, if he were to be held financially responsible, would he have written such a stupid ticket?

By the way, the court felt it was stupid as well.

Contact with his supervisor was the same as you would get anytime. My officer was right.

Sorry Scalemaster. Your idea would not float.

Not a big fan of truck stop shops but TA and Petro offer a "mid trip" inspection for just this reason. I had one done in Reno last week, all was good....they pointed out 2 seeping, not leaking wheel seals on my trailer that will need attention but said they are good for awhile yet and they won't shut me down for that. Had it done at The Alamo Petro actually I guess it's in Sparks, cost me 20$. They basically do a Level 2.5........(my term) as they visually inspect the brakes but do not measure the travel. Well worth it IMO.
