In most cases, yes. In rare cases, no. You're using your company as an example and thinking that's normal. It's not. You know trucking is a dog eat dog world full of greed and corruption. You're basically sitting here telling people all 90% companies are better than the rest and that's simply not true. The shysters and scammers prey on the gullible who don't read the fine print.

LS does have some high paying freight. That a regular company doesn't. Like moving parts for Boeing, new natural gas turbines(10million in value), used Rolls Royce engines for smaller jets. That all pays well. But that isn't the majority of their freight. So 70% of high is better. But you need to build that relationship and get curtain side trailer, sometimes team due to value, ECT.....

Sure 70% of high is better than 99% of peanuts.

However there is currently too many trucks, too few loads AND too many willing to haul for peanuts.
Everybody knows this so nobody needs to pay "high".

There's bad companies at 70% too.
Just saying there bad companies sure, that's everywhere.
But if you're out here renting a dry van for $500 a week that's just dumb.

Why give up any percentage to any company simply to run off load boards?

I run New England 3 times a week. You should see the junk I see going down the road now. Lights out trailers look like crap trucks are even worse. On the side of the door I see least to, leased too, Leesed 2. Every night I shake my head. None of them can hold a speed, pass them a dozen times before I hit Hartford Ct. These aren't Prime or Swift trucks, these are One truck wonders working for nothing.

I don't dislike owner operators. I just hate the bottom feeders. You can spot them a mile away.

Van or open deck maybe. Try renting a good reefer that you can do Ice cream, then get an insurance amount on reefer, then maintaining a reefer, washouts, fuel,- 20% may not cover all that. I pay 75% of the haul without the nickel and dime and that leaves little for providing the work. You’ve never been frustrated with insurance costs and mid policy changes adding a driver until you’ve gone reefer  progressive quoted me 4 grand a month mid policy!! Gotta pay to play I guess..

My company is 86% and they back fuel out of every single load. They also back out $50 for tarping, or 2+ stops. I pay my ELD @ $240 yearly, my accident/injury, non trucking, and plates are mine. As long they continue to operate like they have, I'll never get my own numbers. It would probably take me 3-4 years to actually pocket any more on my own with the cost of new entrant insurance, not to mention all of the perks I would lose. We have some direct freight, and a lot of brokered freight that never sees the load boards, but honestly I'm pretty happy living on the load boards most of the time. Of course this year I've leaned in a little closer because the market is just brutal lol.
