I have a guy who fills out broker contracts and ratesheets for me when he is available and I need it. It's very helpful since I often book loads at the last minute. I can worry about getting to the shipper while he takes care of the paperwork. He also files some fuel reciepts for me and I'm hoping I can talk him into filing other reciepts and paying bills, fuel taxes, etc... eventually. He's just a guy who does a lot of computer related jobs and is an excellent multi-tasker so he is able to do these things for me while taking care of his other "jobs" for a little extra cash.

I wouldn't have someone sitting in an office somewhere doing things that I can do for myself, since I have my way of doing things, and that's the way it gets done.

 

Look for the best fuel prices, find wash outs, maintain documents that I scan or fax, watch my location and contact receivers to get me in sooner, watch national weather and keep me informed.

I'm a practical chick, wouldn't keep him too busy, need him fresh and alert for when I really need him.

 

I would have them take care of some personal banking that has to be done in person. Recently I got permission from the company to write myself a check to get reimbursed for a lumper fee. Parking this thing at a Wells Fargo is not likely so I have to wait until I get my hometime to ride over to the bank and deposit the check. That would be nice to have done for me.

Maybe some routing assistance to save me time at checking Google Earth for parking at Wal-Marts etc, calling Wal-Marts for permission and parking availability, track my actual pay versus mileage run, deal directly with the soon-to-be-exwife in matters relating to the divorce, weather tracking, send me recipe ideas for my slow cooker, make doctor appointments...

 

I'd have them do whatever would make business run more smoothly, Back when I was in business I had 3 assistants and I kept all 3 of them busy besides doing my job, I had 1 on a specific project of researching the competition, And gathering information from the employees in the field as to what they are seeing, I had a personal assistant called my wife and she did what she did, as well as run the office, She is good! That is why I'm keeping her, it is cheaper too...
