I didn't know fleet managers could make the meat plants hurry up.

Navajo runs coast-to-coast if you're just looking for 12-18 month stint.

I can not understand how new drivers come on here and ask what's the best company to work for. How do we know? We don't know if you like to be out on the road for long periods or want home time. Nor do we know what you require for benefits. And so on and so on. A question like that has to be more specific to get even close to what you may want. I have suggested forever that new drivers should sit down and make a list of wants and goals. If you want to jump in and then get out of the industry then go anywhere that will hire you. You don't care what your future in trucking will be so take anything that comes along. But if you do want something out of your company that you chose then I would make the list. Start your planning now so you can reach some of your goals.

It's a matter of schedulin' and charging detention until they take notice.

Working pretty well for me, although Tyson sucks dead chicken guts. Prime's detention policy has been very aggressive, and from where I sit, it's been working well. More often than not meat loads are popping out at DDT for us, so it becomes a matter of scheduling.

IronPony, you're correct. The problem is that many of the outfits now are challenged to keep competent staff in those roles as well as keeping good drivers. Driver I know with a major meat carrier has been through five different iterations of office staff in as many months. It's pretty common to arrive on time for a load, wait the five hour window on the load, then find out it's gonna be another 4 or more before the load is ready and on board. No change in delivery time either, and when you arrive at consignee, they put you at the back of the line because you're late. If only competent fleet managers existed *universally* across the industry... :)
