I'm not sure about the lifestyle vs. job thing. Maybe OTR. If I had to do over again I might have gone to a union shop right off the bat but I was in a position where no one would hire me because I had no record of employment for a year. Swift would not even hire me. But when I was local, it was a job certainly not a lifestyle.

Pretty much spot on what OTR is… Read the comments under that short video clip and all the drivers and all their regrets.
Lots of realities have to come into play to be able to make a lifestyle out of over the road trucking and have it not haunt your soul. You have to have a sense of adventure, a sense of unknown, you have to view each load you get as a mini adventure out on the road. Over the road truck driving hast to get in your blood in a way that you enjoy it overall or you’re just not gonna succeed at it. I think for those who it doesn’t end up being this way for, you just need to use it for a steppingstone to do something else. Save some money and get out. Otherwise you’ll regret it. I’m still on the fence and I’ve been doing this for four years. I do feel like life is passing by rather quickly doing this job. But there’s lots of aspects about it that sure beat punching a time clock or working in a cubicle or some Crap job like that.Opus, downplay, mikamikael and 4 others Thank this. -
Life passes by quickly regardless. If you're happy it's passing better.Truckingdaytrader, IH Truck Guy, JoeyJunk and 3 others Thank this.
