1. Buy the biggest, baddest American Muscle car I can afford (at that point, I should have a wide selection)
2. Get the biggest speeding ticket I can without losing my license just because I can.
3. Spend the rest of my savings paying off said ticket and spend the rest of my life as a ticked-off WalMart greeter trying to survive on part time minimum wage (with an awesome car I can't afford the insurance on).
4. Spend all my free time at truck stop coffe counters regaling rookie drivers with stories of my legend (either stolen from legitimate legends or made up on the fly) while I try to cadge free meals.
If you retire, what is the first thing you would want to do??
Hi G, I've got to say, I think you are probably the most disgruntled driver here. Even more so than Disgruntled Driver, who I don't think is disgruntled at all. I think it's going to be a LONG 4 years for you.
3 years, 11 months, 345 days, 4 more Christmases, and a partridge in a pear tree. -
Retire huh? Good topic here to discuss,
As we all should have a 'plan' in place foreour golden years
Once I retire from trucking and Im not too bored...I will vacation like never before..
I WILL NOT Drive anywhere..(I hate driving now when im off work) Will Fly everywhere of any significant distance
But chances are.I 'll get bored after awhile and work part-time somewhere collecting my SS/401k and a small paycheck to boot
You guys that are young.....Best advice I can give, Start a retirement account NOW If your said employer doesn't have a decent plan for you -
Hmm retirement? My whole life i have to live. A plan i cannot give. Maybe when im fourty i will get a bit dirty. Im saying this in ryme just to pass the time.

For instance, some have already said something along the lines of "lighting up a funny green cigarette".
That's what I was alluding to, "what would you do when you retire, that you cannot do now, and lose your job because of it"?
Being the consummate professionals that we are, we are always staying away from the vices that others take for granted. We stay out of trouble, we are polite (or try to be) to the motoring public, we stay away from the drugs, alcohol, and other vices that if we get caught, we certainly can lose our jobs and maybe even cause large lawsuits for our employers.
Now since I was some what ambiguous, and did not continue with a more precise question, many of you thought I meant for relaxing, picking up hobbies, etc.
And ONLY ONE had the very same thing in mind as me.
SHRED THAT CDL!!!!!!!
Cuz there ain't NO WORRIES to lose my job for doing it!!!!!!!!!!!
Human nature being what it is, so many looked at the question to mean what they thought retirement would be to them. But in their minds, they never saw the fear of losing a job because they thought nothing of being unprofessional in retiring. It's the professional side of us, that keeps us on the straight and narrow each and every day.
But what would anyone like to do when retired, that would NOT have them lose their job now, if they did something out of line now.?
examples are, would you like to go out and binge drink yourself drunk?
would you like to go to a crack house and get so high that you are flying?
would you go and get into your cars and hit over 150 mph and NOT worry about a speeding ticket?
would you go to a loading dock and knock over all the pallets of a company you delivered to and the dock workers there busted your chops each time?
What would be the first thing you would do, if you retired and wasn't going to lose your job over, (or your CDL) if you did it NOW as a WORKING CDL driver? -
I'm not doing anything now that I couldn't do when driving for fear of marring CDL or losing my job. Hope it don't sound boring LOL. But I am doing a lot of things different...I'm truly enjoying life not being tethered to a dispatcher or truck. I do have a cushy well paying local straight truck job with a private company ( only deliver their own product ) I can do...on my terms. I only do it 4-5 days a month, purely for enjoyment and a touch of extra cash. The rest of the time I fish, take weeklong excursions to neighboring states etc. I just wish my wife was here to enjoy it with..still miss her badly. Retirement aint that bad...after four plus decades of trucking, it was an easy decision to make.
Ducks Thanks this. -
Sleep and watch TV for two days, not answering the phone or door. On day three I will go to BMV and change license from cdl to don't mess with me dot !
On day four I will drive to the nearest scale and ask them a bunch of stupid questions. Then on the way out ask them how it feels to have someone waste their time!!G.Anthony and stayinback Thank this. -
Other then that.. not much else that I dont do now.
My wife and I want to travel and tour Europe for a year or 2. Maybe visit the orient as well. Thats about all we have planned for our retirement.

I know a guy that was meticulous in planning his retirement. He and his wife planned to lake fish forever. Bought new pickup with camper on the bed and a new boat. Paid off everything. Retirement set for a Friday then leave out early Saturday morning for their lifelong dream of lake fishing. So, he retired on that Friday and died in his sleep that night. He was in his mid fifties.
