If I had to do it all over again I wouldn't of done it at all. I would of been an Electrician or gone to college and be an accountant like my brother who makes 150 k a year sitting in an office.
When I got started In 1998 it wasn't as bad as it is now.
Today we have unreasonable HOS requirements, GPS tracking, Safety managers who've never driven a truck judging you're every move on the truck computer. Driver facing cameras straight out if the movie 1984, urine test, blood test, breath test , hair test, I'm surprised they don't require a stool sample. The motoring public hating us more and more, as well as more and more police departments getting DOT authority, legislatures passing laws that won't let us take defensive driving or deferred judication for tickets. Higher fuel prices, higher maintenance cost , Mega Carriers treating drivers worse and worse and worse. No respect from the places we deliver, and lastly ( I'll probly catch flak for this but it's true). Truck Drivers themselves have gotten dumber and dumber and even nastier.
Did I miss anything?
In short don't be a truck driver , find something where you'll be respected, any respect there ever was for truck drivers is long gone.
If you were to start your career over...

I always wanted to be a stunt man in the adult film industry. Whenever they would have to film a particularly dangerous scene, I would put on my crash helmet and go in for the money shot.
Unfortunately I wasn't endowed with the talent to pursue this particular field. -
I would've started out in flatbed instead of dry van. Probably would've made enough scratch to retire early if I wanted to.

Im not trying to say you're wrong by any means, I'm sure these restrictions and changes in economy have been tough but after doing something for 20 years you're gonna lose some of the glory you once found in it right? I mean, just look at marriage haha
Really I'm curious why you never tried to get into another field? If everything went south why would anyone still be in trucking? -
If only I would have stayed on the road in the 90's as a male exotic dancer I would be legendary now and not have to drive a truck
TruckDuo Thanks this. -
I wouldn't do anything different. I like where I'm at.
HorseShoe Thanks this. -
