All you really need to know is what @Bakerman said. As simple as it sounds, yep, that is all.
I do mine online, and this is what the forms ask:
Also, they want whole numbers. So, no decimals for all of the numbers inserted in the forms. If you ever get stuck, you can call the IFTA department in your state. They’re very helpful, at least in TX. Oh, and after the numbers have been inserted, their website will automatically calculate how much you owe, or if it detects a problem with how you filled out the forms.
- Total IFTA miles
- Total non-IFTA miles
- Total gallons purchased
- For each state/jurisdiction, total IFTA miles; taxable miles; and purchased gallons.

You should have trip sheets with record of every road you travel on in each state. IF you get an ifta audit, they will check the route driven against total miles. I was audited and they ran the routes to check total miles claimed.

Ok great thanks for all the help.
PE_T Thanks this. -
LightningExpress Thanks this.

Ky is the worst. Not only do they hit you with the fuel tax, they have to add on the surcharge and KYU tax to go along with it. Not to mention you are already also paying your apportioned tag rate for mileage in KY.PE_T, Bean Jr. and Snailexpress Thank this. -

so the rates are cents on the gallon but you only report in whole dollars?
-
You round gallons to nearest gallon.
You round mpg to 2 decimal points.
You pay or get credit to the nearest penny.
Your state should have an online IFTA site. Use it. It’s very simple.
Don’t worry about paying in or getting credit.
Only worry about buying the cheapest NET fuel. That’s the price you pay AFTER subtracting the state tax from the pump price.
Everything else will take care of itself.Dino soar, LightningExpress and Bean Jr. Thank this. -
