Hey, how do I go about getting my IFTA sticker and what else do I need to make truck legal on road?
How do I register with the UCR. I am getting rid of my lease truck but I own my own and want to pout that on the road.

Pay your HVUT, go register for IRP, then you'll be able to get IFTA and finally register and pay for UCR which can be done online...
-
What is HVUT and what is IRP?
-
HVUT=Heavy vehicle use tax IRP= are your commercial plates/registration
-
I have a DOT number, does that make me commercial?
-
Yes it does make you commercial. Hvut or your 2290 is paid through the irs and is equired for vehicles tagged over 55000lbs. Irp is your apportioned plate and cab card. Thats a good 1200-1700 depending on the state, then your ifta stickdrs and ifta permit thatll go through you state motor carrier divivsion. And you should be alright. Your UCR or unified carrier registration goes through indiana and is filed online its a whopping $76/year plus the credit card fee so its like $83 and it goes by calander year if i remember right. Remember if your not hauling exempt you wont be crossing state lines without a motor carrier number be safe driver hope this helped

Before you can pay your UCR or get your IFTA stickers, you will need to have active authority. You stated that you had a dot number but didn't mention whether you had your authority. Once you have active authority you can do the rest of what you mentioned. When you apply for your IRP, they will ask for proof of active authority, insurance, stamped 2290 receipt and will check to make sure you have paid your UCR. You can pay the UCR online. I don't recall the website address, but you can find them by doing a search for UCR. Most states have their IFTA and IRP either in the same office or in the same building. You will need to have an IFTA account in order to get the stickers. The IRP is your cab card and base plate. You live in one of the most expensive in which to tag a class 8 truck. I would expect to pay around $2,200-2,500/year. If you plan on leasing your truck to a carrier rather than running your own authority, then all you need is a stamped receipt from the IRS to show you have paid your 2290. The carrier can handle the rest. You can get your own base plate (IRP) and IFTA account, but will need to clear it with a carrier with whom you lease your truck and use their authority for the accounts.

Thanks that all makes sense now, but I ran into an issue where the previous owner never paid into any of this and there are massive amounts of money owed before the truck can be road worthy. I was told it was going to be near $10,000.00 to get it done due to the previous owner's negligence. Truly sucks I'm stuck. I've been told to wait until 2014 and all fees from before will drop off.

I am not sure whether you are talking about repairs on the truck or taxes? All the fees mentioned would not come close to being $10,000.
