Hello all, I have a question about the IFTA taxes, I have my own authority & DOT # but I've had someone driving my truck & I dont know how many miles he has accually ran in it, we pay cash for all our fuel and I dont have all the fuel tickets so how would a person go about paying the IFTA tax when there is no way for me to be sure how many miles he has ran that I dont know about? Thanks
IFTA taxes?

Keep better records, you should be reporting how many gallons of fuel you have bought and how many miles you have run in ever state. You as an owner need to be able to keep better records and get after your driver for not reporting those two tidbits of information to you.
-
You're probably looking at a real problem if you're audited. They can shut you down completely, plus fine you big $.
The rules are very clear. -
Your IFTA department of the state DOT will be the most help. Or at least thats where I would turn in my state.
Your going to be told that whats provable is all that can be gone off of.
Also keep in mind that all those "lost" fuel receipts are money thrown away at tax time when you can't deduct them from your income.
Like was mentioned YOU HAVE GOT TO KEEP better records. The state might cut you slack one time, but don't expect it as an ongoing thing. -
Yes I know its my fault but this dude is the person who talked me into this trucking deal & he has been driving for 25+ years so I just went w/ it but he knew that I didn't have a clue so he took it upon hiself to just take loads & do whatever he wanted w/o telling me about atleast half of the trips he went on, then when I started to figure it out he just up & quit taking the fuel tickets & everything else, but again I blame myself I was just wondering what you guys thoughts were on it. Thanks for your input I guess I'll just explain my situation & pay up as a lesson learned.

The IFTA ladies at the state DOT here are really helpful. I hope in your situation your state will be as well. Explain to them what went on and see what they say. Without receipts they won't be able to prove much of any thing.
Let us know how it goes. -
This dude probably was hauling loads and putting the money in his pocket. I think you could get a lawyer and subpeona those records and that may generate the proof you need for a lawsuit against this dude.
Fraud. -
Thats exactly what dude was doing, but really it would probably cost me more than I could ever recover so therefore I figure might as well cut my losses & chaulk it to another lesson learned.
-
But thanks to everybody, I just kinda wondered what you all might have thought about it.
