i did it myself its not that hard its a couple forums to fill out and its a few bucks, its not expensive its mostly just a paperwork requirement.
it did take me two trips to the motor carrier irp office to get it taken care of. once to pickup the paperwork then had to make a appointment for first time setup. your ifta is threw your state so the process may vary a bit from state to state.
$650 is a ripoff i don't think i spent more than a few hours getting my apportioned plates and ifta.

For 650 bucks it should come with 5 years of them filing the quarterlies. and even then its a ripoff.
Ifta reporting is ready basic bookkeeping. Its just a matter of tracking your miles and fuel purchases and some very basic math.
wore out Thanks this. -
It would be interesting to see how they going to do IFTA with electric motors. I hope to use one in my lifetime still.

My state is $35 application fee, $1 each for stickers -
We have the following taxes which in a way tax for the same thing : road usage
1. IFTA (it is a fuel tax - quarterly payments are only adjustments but it is the same tax)- miles and gallons
1a) NM fuel tax
2b) NY - whatever they call it
3c) KY - whatever they call it
2. IRP - just miles
3. HVUT - the fact of using heavy CMV
UCR - a supplement to the above
anything else I missed? -
And some states have a fuel surcharge tax. You pay some tax at the pump and an additional x cents per gallon on your ifta return. -
-
If you buy fuel in any particular state, you don’t pay tax on that fuel again. IFTA is a zero sum program, you pay tax for the fuel burned in any particular state, nothing more. It’s actually a pretty fair way to administer a fuel tax.
It sure beats the old way of having to buy fuel permits on top of tax paid when purchasing fuel.
