So my husband has his heart set on getting his cdl and attending a school here at home in indianapolis, but he is foreign and has a slight language barrier. I was considering possibly doing it together and working as a team. However, I have a recent felony charge but will be reduced to a misdemeanor after about another year. How hard is it to find couple jobs?? and felony friendlies? I'm ignorant to all schools and requirements. What's the best way to start us out? Should he go ahead and get his license and I wait for my crime to drop off my history? Any advice is helpful, i have no clue where to start or what to look for. I've heard couples are always needed and it's easy to find work is that true? Also, would a slight language barrier be a problem? (he's russian)

Chicago is loaded with russian owned companies
that have most everyone russian speaking

many dont take taxes and hire as an independent contractor
your husbands english has to be good enough to converse with the DOT

many of these Chicago companies love teams especially family
and are less stringent on hiring policies
but if your on reportable probation that be another story entirely

Go to Prime as a team, you will both get trained, Go out with separate trainers, come back together as a team. Together you will have a combined income of 1200, per week.

No going with your husband would be a mistake, a misdemeanor Call PRIME they will deal with it more than likely.

Get some pre-hires. Both fill out applications now and submit them to team companies. Carolina Cargo will probably hire you as a team, then when the felony drops off you can change companies. Check the website. The pay is low, but since you and husband will be teaming I'm assuming the income will be combined. Martin Enterprises of the Carolina's is another that will probably give you a pre-hire. Do this now so you can tell the school you already have a job lined up. Some CDL schools won't let felons attend unless they're sure you will be successful finding employment.

Yes, as Cranky Yankee posted, lots of Russian companies in Chicago; no language barrier there.

Paschall Truck Lines hires felons and runs teams and solo; your choice.

OK, there's 3 companies you have a good chance with.

$1200/wk together? Is that typo? That's solo pay.

Is the schooling a literal pass/fail tests or is it driving training? He checked out a school today and it was after you get your license. I thought the school was training to help pass the test for your license? Everything online you have to give personal info to receive info, it's so annoying. Most likely he will attend soon and I can a year after. I wouldnt think it would be too hard to find something together especially if he had a year under his belt.
And thanks for the Chicago advice, i think he'll be fine, plus he wants to use the experience as a way to improve his english

Most schools require a CDL permit, not a hard copy CDL.

He must go to the Department of Motor Vehicles and take a CDL permit test which has multiple choice answers. This is not a driving test. The driving test will be completed toward the end of CDL school.

To study for the permit test, go to the top of this page and click on "CDL Practice Tests."

You might want to check out Sage truck driving school in Indianapolis or Muncie. They are getting people jobs at Carter Express in Anderson , IN and Carter pays for the schooling.

They are also wanting to hire teams. Not sure about the felony , maybe it depends on how serious the felony is but you can call the school and find out. Just Google the school for the number.

I checked out the school and talked with a recruiter at Carter Express and am thinking about going there.
