Grrr...Illinois strikes again! I just got off the phone with Roehl and was told they can't train me since IL won't recognize their training transcripts. Swift and Prime didn't mention this...I know the CDL License can't transfer in-state (have to take the test in-state) but what are the transcripts for? Any IL people have issues attending programs out of state and returning? ...should move states.

If you trained out of state then you would need that state's commerical license. Once in state you should be able to just take the written test.

I would contact the IL DMV office about commerical license's obtained out of state and then applying for an IL Class A license.

Transcripts are usually from the driving school you went to and how you did on different aspects of driving. Some DMV's will take the driving school transcripts in lieu of a driving test.

Prime makes you get your cdl permit in Missouri, and you obtain your cdl from Missouri, then you have to go to your BMV and transfer your drivers license to IL CDL. I talked to Prime about a year ago, and that is what they told me, along with Stevens, and Swift. That is how they get around it because you get your permit and CDL in the state that you are training, and then transfer it to your home state.

Illinois requires any cdl holder from another state to take the written and driving test no matter how long they have had the cdl. Thanks to Ryans scandal.

So. How can one with a CDL move to Illinois and transfer their license if one doesn't own their own commercial vehicle to take the road test? Are there any resolves for this?

I called the Illinois DMV and asked this question and they had no suggestions.

    Thank you for your inquiry.

In order to receive a CDL in the state of Illinois you can either borrow a truck or rent a truck when you are ready to take the pre-trip,skills, and road test.

I would figure it to be a bit on the hard side. Your cdl is still valid from the other state. If you have a trucking job, contact your employer and ask them if you can use the truck for the test.

Otherwise, you have to find somewhere to rent the appropriate truck and go for the test.

The Ryan debacle really makes this a trying issue for the rest of us. I think they went to far to the opposite side.

I can feel your pain on this, i tried transferring my Missouri Class A CDL over to an illinois Class A, i have to re-take everything, the written tests (which are now online) and also take the driving test. This was back in 2007 and it is now 2012.

I have to agree, no thanks to former Gov. Ryan, he really ruined it for some of us who try to keep things legit.
