Have no idea about Roehl, thought this thread might offer something. But found your comment about the cold ones honest and funny. It's a life he'll be doing not a weekend.

I carry a small grill with me on the truck. I can cook out whenever I want. My students love that, find a store grab a couple of rib-eye steaks and fire up the grill. I even do baked taters in the microwave. Sometimes you need a break like that, I carry a camp chair too, got to have somewhere to sit while you cook.

    uofm78,

i live in northern indiana. recruiter said that Gary is where i would go for orientation. i want to do flatbed, but i don't recall if that had anything to do with going to gary. that might just be because it's closest to me.

when, or did you, start orientation?

All flatbed orientation is out of Gary, and that's kind of dumb since your dispatcher will be out of Marshfield.

I guess trucking isn't for everyone...we had a guy quit on day 5 of RDTC...he didn't want to drive through town...and I guess he was white knuckling while we were on the highway....Good news is that with his absence there is more wheel time for me and the other guy in my truck....
For some odd reason I had problems with alley dock friday...just couldnt make it happen...thursday when i did it the first time I had no issues..I could just get the trailer in there in no time...well i guess I will try again tomorrow...

Just keep practicing it will bet better. More wheel time is better for you, I've seen classes end up with two or three students by the end. Just listen to the instructors and do what they say and you will do fine.

That's how my class was, started with about 11 I think and by the end it was me and two other guys. People dropped for various reasons, some couldn't get past the clutching and shifting, some decided they missed home too much already (before even being on the road just the class) and some various other reasons. One guy had to go because of his wife getting pretty sick, but said he was going to be back as soon as possible, not sure if he ever got back again or not. Never saw him again.

If you bump into an old guy that looks like santa tell him that Tom says hi. Name was Jim something, I'm starting to forget my old drivers. That old dude cracked me up.
