save your money and buy a glider, you said you dont care about CA, so the decision is simple. you buy a 30k truck you are rolling the dice on the motor, bull gear, egr stuff. some get lucky, I didnt. connecting rod bolt came loose and threw the rod out the side of block 9 months after purchase. lost 20k, never again for me. bought a new glider. I now have a 1800.00 month truck payment for the next 5 years but HAVE ZERO repair costs. if you can find a truck with a recent inframe even if it cost you more youll be better off.
Also get a 13 speed. your in the lumber capital of the west coast were they load you heavy and have a lot of hills, 10 speed will not get the mpg in those conditions that a 13 will. 13 will have a higher resale also.

A GLIDER is no different than a used truck , as the drive train is from a USED truck so unless you spend the $ for a total rebuild of all the drive train components your in the same boat as buying a USED truck.

its got a 3 year warranty on EVERYTHING. so yes ZERO repair costs.
Purchasing a completed finished glider is the way to go.
I know what your saying it doesn't cover tires and oil changes stuff like that, but to me that is maintenance costs , i was referring to repair costs.

A finished Columbia glider 12.7/13/3.55 is like 105k put 15k down and your payment will only be 1500.00 month. if you have the other 15k left you have 10 months worth of payments in reserve.

If your going to stay local then a 30k truck will last you a long time, but if your looking to do long haul, that a lot of stress knowing any mile the motor could go, and now you've got to come up with 20k for an inframe on your 30k dollar truck.

I bought the truck I am driving right now for 21,000 total. That was in 2002 so I will say yes I would buy a 30,000 dollar truck. I run everywhere but California and the age of the truck has nothing to do with that choice.

You can solder a resistor into one of the wires in the egr system that will keep the valve closed and eliminate that cough......I'm not exactly sure which one but a guy turned a buddy of mine onto this down in Texas and fixed him up. He has an 05 Frght, an old Maverick truck with a DD60, early EGR setup pre DEF, says it has never run so good. I'm sure somebody here could tell you more, but I know it's not a hard fix.

There is a freightliner century for sale on here. C-15 and a 9 speed that can be converted. Its set at 435 but if I remember correctly those can be upped to 500. I think it was only 15k and had like 850k miles. Sounded like a good deal to me.
