I was with Sprint for 10 years, 6 phones, unlimited everything , then...... Sitting in Great Falls and all of a sudden I have no data service, seems they decided that after 1 gig of roaming data I was shut off for the month. No load and no way to look for one. That was the third day in the billing cycle. The solution in their eyes was to sell me a new plan that limited everything and cost more. Switched to Verizon, it cost less and has better coverage. I run all the lower 48 so Sprint works about as well as tin cans and string for me.
Diesel Dave, rabbiporkchop and HalpinUout Thank this. -
When was the last time you used T-Mobile? They added over 1 mil miles of coverage last year I believe.
Also, if you get a business account with them, you can use unlimited data when roaming. So when it switches to Att, or some local company, you still have 4g LTE.
Couple of weeks ago, I started internet radio app in Nashville, went to Denver and then to Detroit, the app was playing about 98% of the time, the data was available pretty much everywhere.
My main phone is on Vzw and I carry a T-Mobile one for the unlimited data they have and just as a back up, have been really satisfied with them, they improved a lot during last year. -
Are you saying the map on the TMo website is wrong?
So you got data in your little triangle run, that was good enough to stream music.. Good for you.
Just did a quick check.
Still showing Partner/non LTE Coverage in most of Wyoming. And Montana..
No thanks.
I do too much of I80, and 90/94.
Until they can compete with VZW on LTE Coverage, I wouldn't consider their so called service. Even if they paid ME.
Once they can actually compete I'll be one of the first to switch. But that's not likely.rabbiporkchop Thanks this. -
You mad, bro? I never said Tmo is just as good as Vzw, but they are not worthless as you made it sound.
-
Worthless to me, without good data coverage where I run.
But if someone needed a ton of data or unlimited.
Verizon is really not the best choice. But that depends on the person I guess.Last edited: Aug 13, 2016

After being with Sprint for over 10 years and finally having enough of the BS service I decided to give Verizon a try a couple years ago. You get what you pay for!!! I don't mind paying more money with Verizon. The service has been fantastic. I wish I would have switched years ago.

Not picking sides here. But feel some folks are not really sure about their actual carriers network service area coverage.
Open Signal is an app installed on apple and android phones. It shows a large sampleing size of where people have phone signals and where people dont. Which network carrier they are using.
Click this link and where it says Network. Switch between the carriers to see who really has the largest coverage and who has less coverage.
http://opensignal.com/?z=5&minLat=26.3&maxLat=47.2&minLng=-120.1&maxLng=-71.8&s=31022&t=4-2-3
This is not supported or endorsed by any of the carriers. This is a completely independent app that really gives you an unbiased look at who has the best coverage and service area. They all work great in metro areas. But who works the best when out on the job?

This is pretty much what I have been saying.
I agree,.. Verizon's data prices are an insult. I would love to drop them for that reason.
Problem is that my business depends on having the best phone service and having that service where ever I go. Verizon has the largest service coverage and most stable network out of all of them. So unfortunately I will pay more to have that service.

I've always had Verizon. For a short while back when I hauled logs, I had a 2nd phone supplied by work...cingular (now AT&T). That work phone was a paperweight here at the house, and most of the time if I was out in the woods and the cingular phone didn't have a signal, my verizon phone did. I NEVER ran into a situation where my phone didn't work and the work phone did.
The wife used to have Sprint "unlimited" and claimed she liked it...except for the coverage. I had a 2nd phone line on my Verizon plan that she'd carry with her for the Sprint "dead" zones because she'd find them pretty frequently. I didn't want her to not have a phone that worked if she needed one.
When Verizon changed up their pricing a year or two ago, we sat down and looked at our situation. We could upgrade my plan to accommodate our combined data usage (with a couple gigs to spare), port her number over to replace my 2nd line, and drop sprint altogether...and it would save me $10/month off my previous bill and it would save her the entire amount of her bill. Over $100/month we'd save, so it was a no-brainer.
To me, a plan can have all the data, talk, and text it wants, but it won't do you a lick of good if you don't have a signal to use it. I'd rather pay a little extra if necessary to have a phone that works nearly 100% of the time instead of cutting 50% off my bill and losing 20-30% or more of the coverage area.
A friend of ours just switched to Boost Mobile "unlimited" plan....saves him a bunch of money....but if it weren't for the WiFi here at the house, his phone wouldn't work at all when he stops by. He's got about a 12 mile dead zone before he starts getting a signal again on his way home.
Granted, the WiFi here at the house allows a lower data usage through my phone company...and being local and home every night, I just don't go through that much data.
