When I delivered new trailers from all the manufacturers, they always had trailers of non standard lengths in inventory waiting to go to customers. Any length you wish, they will build it for you. Very common for them to build 12' high, 35' or 40' long refers for the food service industry headed for places like NY or Chicago.
So getting the equipment is not the issue. No one wants the logistics headache and cost of bringing it to NJ, cross docking whatever it is onto a legal truck and delivering it.
Two quick stories on the matter, since I spent the largest share of my career delivering to Manhattan and the 5 boroughs during the last 45 years.

I picked up a brand new Landoll '53 flatbed, the ones with the moving tandems that create a slant deck so you can pickup large inoperative vehicles. A customer in Brooklyn NY bought it off the internet. I was intimately familiar with his neighborhood and address. I called him to make sure that was where he wanted it delivered. Yes it is. I said OK. I showed up there at the appointed time. He about crxppxd his pants when he saw it. We did get it into his yard, with much difficulty. His tractor couldn't even hook to it. He returned it to the dealer in Illinois losing about $20K on the deal. Couldn't move it around the city at all

Commonly we would deliver multiple loads of office furniture at night to large office buildings in Manhattan. The police would block off the street for the purpose, so they knew we were coming, permits and all. So we would have 5 or 6 '53 trailers, pulled by typical 230" wheelbase conventionals there.
On more than one occasion we would be stopped when we got off the Broadway exit off the GW bridge. There several DOT officers, very nice, issued 3 tickets to every unit, one for overlength, one for no escort car, one for no OD permit, totaling $1600. They never asked for our drivers license, that information was never on the ticket. We turned them over to the company, who in turn gave them to the office furniture dealer who installed the stuff, who in turn gave it to the client who ordered it. Somehow, somewhere somebody got paid off to bury the things, because it never stopped anyone, as you can see by the tweet.

When i was doing food service in NYC we got so so many parking tickets that the company had a deal where they only paid half price. It was common to get 3 at a rip on 6th and 48th at 8am. 3 days a week I did that run

Ran fresh beef into NYC for years.
Gave it up 5 years ago ...most of the people in the market were good and some were fantastic.
Just got to be not worth the hassle anymore ...sorry NYC.

I'm still probably over the total length limit with a 45 but I've been going twice a week for a month. It's been fine by me.
