This is what my quarterly permit says:
For Method of Movement Loaded on and/or Towed By
_ 120,000 lbs. on 6 or more axles and/or 100,000 lbs. on 5 axles
No tractor tandem may exceed 48,000 lbs. and no axles in the tandem may exceed 25,000 lbs.
Maximum tandem weight on a trailer or towed vehicle having only one tow axle tandem is 48,000 lbs.
and no axles in the tandem may exceed 25,000 lbs.
Illinois -- 3 or 4 axle RGN trailer?

48000 on a tandem is a lot of weight. I am even scared of making hard turns.

This is right. If my drives are at 48, the steers would be at 12 or so (5th wheel in the front position). 5th wheel in the rear position is much easier on the steer.

Also, I wonder if anyone had this observation: if I am driving with all lights, flags flashers, looking prepared, then I am not stopped by local police all that much, they seem not to be interested.

I meant Less weight. sorry. I always shift 5th wheel all the way forward if heavy.
