I can see some of their reasoning.

Once you get a CDL - be it through a CDL mill or legitimate training and experience, you can "launder" the CDL by moving and transferring your driver's license.

Given that, bear in mind I'm NEVER moving to Illinois - and should I ever move there, I tain't gonna move my license!!! :biggrin_25523:

Illinioz officials have become masters at making life in general tougher. Let me guess - More 'crackdowns' on 'loopholes' !?!?

I'm the second person in this thread who will never ever have to worry about this Illinioz CDL transfer issue/crisis.

Wasn't there a place in Illinois that got caught in a CDL scheme where a person could buy their CDL without any road test or such?

Yes, the Governor, Ryan, went to jail finally for it. All of his republican political friends did the best they could do to keep him out. They didn't think he did anything wrong.

    No different from others though.

Recently, there have been some other states that have experienced the same problem. They are trying to strive for better, but we know it is only revenue.

Hopefully this will curb the foreign driver problem we are currently seeing out of IL. Seems to me there is a higher amount of unskilled drivers coming out of IL than any other state, and they barely speak english to boot. I also wonder why the volvo is the truck of choice for this group?:yes2557:

Where did you gather this info from?....Most of the foreign drivers I've seen were working for the "Big Companies" and I'm probably wrong, but I don't think they have any training camps in IL..I'd say the fallout from Ryan and his cronies would make that a bad choice for them to locate here.Maybe you should check out the DMV ON SITE at Swifts "school" in TN if you want your source for crappy drivers..Now if you have a ticket in IL,its my understanding that when you renew you have to retake the written test and some old hands are even having a hard time passing it.I ,like a lot of you guys have had my "Big Truck" license since before CDLs were the thing and I thought it was a commie deal when it came out, but as time has went on I can see a few benefits to it too. It's removed a LOT of drunken idiots from the road for one thing.

I know IL has WAY more than its fair share of nazi like laws, dirtbag politicians and inbred cops and I can't stand the state for the most part, but as far as what you're saying about unskilled drivers coming out of here,I'd say you're 180 degrees off on that (in the past few years especially) and I imagine these transfer retests are to keep unskilled CDL mill grads from holding a valid IL cdl after aquiring them in another state that gives breaks to the big company schools. In fact if you lay over with some time on your hands here, just bounce down to the Secretary of States office and see how well YOU do on the test and let us know what you score on it or GOD forbid if you were to take a single drink of beer and then get caught behind the wheel of a passenger vehicle and see how long you keep your CDLs.:biggrin_25525: Illinois is NOT playing with drivers anymore.ENJOY THIS ILLINOIS BECAUSE I DON'T STICK UP FOR YOU OFTEN..lol

btw,If I'm wrong on the fact that the big companies don't have a school here, please let me know if you find out different.I'm curious about that.

I went through one of the local colleges in Illinois and it was 4 weeks long and accredited. Had to go to the SOS office to take the written tests and the examiner came to the school to administer the pre-trip and the driving test when we were done. Not super hard, but not a gimme either. We then had to go back to the SOS office to get our hard copy license.
Muleskinner, where you at in S. Illinois. I am in Williamson County.

Rend Lake. You'd be amazed how few people know about Bloody Williamson anymore.
Saw the other day it was the 80th anniversary of ol' Charlie's hangin on the courthouse steps up in Benton.
I remember my Grandma telling me about it back in the day.
