I’m sure my permit company routed it, just to stay off toll roads. It wasn’t really a bad detour

    cke and Razororange Thank this.

I will say this as a disclaimer. If something happens and you don’t have the permit it’s going to be worse than if you did have it. But I’m sure you have already weighed the consequences.

cke, Razororange and booley Thank this.

My toll plaza visits sort of told me what I need to know. They really are NOT used to issuing these permits. I was shocked and thought that it was impossible to encounter something like this in the USA.

    cke and Humblepie Thank this.

I believe that if I stay on "state routes" I do not need permits like Cook county or Chicago. I am still learning this stuff.

    cke Thanks this.

Absolutely correct, you have to measure the odds of how many moves you can make before paying a BIG fine. So do the number of non permitted trips out weigh the fine?

Trouble is, can you get to the state route without using a local road? Seems like whenever I needed police escorts then right away I would have to get a city permit. But the normal oversize stuff, I would just do with a state permit

The second street from my warehouse location is a state route. The first one is a private street. Overall, I am definitely still learning, and yes I sort of know I need city permits, but so far I was able to wing it and stick to state routes except for the final mile. When I could say "I took a detour to get food and fuel and rest".

I'm not going to get on you about your decision. I would caution publicly talking about what you've said while also posting pictures of your equipment with company name and DOT numbers visible.

Is ISP reading this forum? Unlikely. Are there people in this world with too much free time and a need to lick boots? Absolutely.

Something to keep in mind. When you purchase the toll permit they can give you one for express lanes that doesn't have the box for each plaza to sign. So if you're cruising past in the express lanes and not stopping how would they know if you have one or not? Especially if you're passing through a plaza in the middle of the system not at the WI/IN/IA entrances?

    Oxbow and booley Thank this.
