I agree with Luis, I plan on taking diesel mechanics and I also plan on taking a freight broker class. I know the freight broker class isn't a business degree but to me it deals with what I need to be successful whenever I set out and run my own company. It seems like the only way to make money is to be a freight broker, diesel mechanic, or have your own trucking company with a few trucks.

    Luis Thanks this.

I plan on using all three of those skills especially since I want to be my own boss, I can eliminate the broker if I have my own broker authority along with motor carrier authority which means more money in my pocket. Also with the diesel mechanics I can work on my own truck and save a ton of money there.:biggrin_25525:

I think you guys have a good direction that you want to follow. However, do you realize the reality of what the real working world is like?

HaiL, CryptKeeper, I bet there are many who ARE in the "real working world" already and STILL don't realize the reality. :biggrin_25523::biggrin_25524:

    BTW, welcome to the forums.

Yup I already know, I work at a small trucking company in the shop doing minor mechanical work to washing trucks, and also doing office work.

As long as you guys have a realistic expectation and don't let these recruiters butter you up you should be fine. because it was hard for her to handle. Prospects aren't to bad for truck drivers. The best piece of advice I can give you is do your homework on any company, or training, benefits, etc... Have a clear plan about what your goals are. there are always other jobs and/or careers out there for you.

I didn't get any training! I just went to the DMV and got my permit all I need now is a truck and trailer for the road test and I'd have my CDL.
