I'm still trying to figure out why you are working 24/7/365 to dispatch 4 trucks. Doesn't add up to me. Do you consider having your phone on working ?

I really got to agree with Danny, I mean, I run two O/O's, one who does a ton of OD stuff and i do all the permits, still have time to run small fabrication/mechanic business and drive some local stuff here. Are these ltl carriers? Maybe auto haulers ? Something's not adding up.

It is amazing how much time you can spend dispatching trucks off a load board. I ran a large business for years, now I am running a small fleet and looking for help dispatching. I have been exploring how to find someone who could do it, and what to pay them. It takes about 10-20 phone calls to hit on a load we want on average. However your on duty 24/7, certainly not working 24/7. Most load board companies close at 5p.m. Tell your drivers not to call you after 6 p.m. If they have a breakdown or issue they need to call the owner or the person with the credit card, not you. If you want to make what the owner makes, buy a truck, if you want to make what the driver makes ,leave home and live in the truck 24/7. Other wise do what you need to do, quit complaining and take action.

Agree..... The drivers would be the ones hurt. Look for a new job and then give a 2 weeks notice.....or what ever Mr. tight pockets requires.

I'm right there with ya, Hammer!

I get the joys of being a part time dispatcher, part time load planner, part time customer service rep, part time yard supervisor, part time equipment manager...and, oh yeah, I get to drive, too! It's fun, fast paced, and stressful. Definitely not a job for everyone. There have been days where I consider moving back to being just a driver, only having one truck (mine) to worry about. Then I get one of those days where it's straight up right to the wall hard running, fixing everything and moving trucks, the kind of day where 5:30 catches you completely by surprise. I love those days...once they are over, of course.

And I have been expressly forbidden to chase the drivers around the yard with my cheater bar...

Dan, when I say 24/7 doesnt mean I'm working 24/7 but I'm available 24/7 for the drivers and brokers so if the driver is having any issues I'm there, if the driver delivering on a saturday at 1am and having issues i'm there etc and Im only on the loadboard from a certain time but thank you for your concern

Sounds like you are making part time job wage working full time. 12% charge for the owner Operator, while working on another business and while you take care of his truck business... good for the boss, bad for you.

Like bushhawk said, take action. Do something about it. They say there are three kinds of people in this world. Those people who make things happen, those people who watch things happen, and those who wonder what happened.

Am I the only one to notice that the owner isn't even making much?? 12% charge to run an O/o?? With him saying he may only book 4-6 loads a week, depending on his insurance, that might just barely cover the insurance... If he's even got the other drivers insured?? Not taking away from your complaint, your pay certainly is crap...

The couple reefer outfits I ran for at 90% charged everything back to the O/O, so the company owner's only overhead is his dispatch cost.

Maybe you should look into becoming an agent for a trucking company. My friends wife finds a customer here and there and gets 8 percent for those loads.
