Hi, Congratulation on the business and I am glad that you made it. I am in the same position where you were few months ago - I want to start a business as a owner operator. I am new to this field that is why would like to ask you which study material would you recommend me to take so that way I can learn about the industry. Thanks,,,

Now you want to start a business as an owner-operator, but in November you were an owner-operator:

I was wondering if you could send me information about the school which you went to become the dispatcher? It would be nice if they would have some study material I could buy from them. Thanks,,,

Not sure if the original poster will be replying to your question. If I am reading the situation correctly, he/she has been banned.

I have 1 hotshot truck that I dispatch every week. I am a independent dispatcher. We have a good relationship i usually get him around 6000 a week gross pay so around 2500-3000 miles. When you call the brokers you have to bargain with them most of the time to get a good rate. I try not to put a load on my drivers truck for less than 1.85 a mile and that is for a partial/ltl. I charge him 5% of what the truck makes, I do all paper work carrier packets to set them up with a company to haul for them. It is a real pain in the butt at times but I have to do it due to a injury requiring me to work from home, I drove over the road for 13 years and know the ins and outs of getting the good freight. I have 1 truck now would I dispatch more ,yes butt the most a person would want to dispatch by your self would be 5, if you go over that it will be pretty hard to keep them straight on who is going where and so forth. Im pretty dedicated with my driver I use 3 different load boards, I use tbs factoring for the drivers pay so I do not have to deal with any money. I get up at 0600 and do not get off computer till midnight. So you have to be dedicated to it and keep the wheels turning, if the wheels are not turning, you are not making money driver is not making money and he will find a different dispatcher. so if you want to become a independent dispatcher just think of what it takes. Its not a 9-5 job. Thanks and I hope that helped out a little. scotthoover74@yahoo.com
