well, i'm just about ready for work, got to take a shower and eat a little and i'm off. I start at 8 tonight because i had to make sure i got 24 hours off after i hit my 70. Its in the 20's today so i got to dress warm and probably wear my rain gear under my ppe just incase i get wet tonight. Cold is one thing but cold and wet is another. Its not raining tonight but its easy to make a simple mistake on the job and get yourself soaked on a given body part.....usually your arms or legs.

Man, i got just about everything i need to make my job easier and comfortable. I did most of my paperwork ahead of time and i'm going to make sure i do a good job tonight. Its really easy to make a mistake like a small spill or over load a frac tank or something....but thats how you learn, luckily, i havent had to learn the hard way and its very easy to make a big mistake like catch the edge of a cattle guard or back up into something. The main thing is to not get lazy and take your time in the critical spots....AND THEN HAUL ###.

ok guys, leaving in an hour. I feel like an astronaut about ready to launch, YEE HAW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    i used my motel address.

I got my address on payroll switched over today and i contacted an accountant and he said i can get that california state income tax back no problem. When i get my w2's in order and see him at the beginning of 2012, i'm going to ask him some tax questions about my gross earnings for the coming year. I'm not sure, but i think it might be in my best interest not to make more than 75k in a year? Maybe i get bumped to the next tax bracket? Any how, i'll find this stuff out.

yeah, i think you can but you cant use it on your cdl if you switch over to a texas license......at least, thats the way i remebered it because i tried to go down that same route. I would just ask your employer and then probably take it with a grain of salt. Nothing beats a real address even if its just a motel.

thanks, i try my best to keep it real. I get questions through pm that are really tough. Its really hard to say which companies are doing what. Many of the pay structures and work schedules or how they go about doing things can be vague or confusing. This is why these same questions keep coming up and people generally dont get the answer they are looking for.

The one answer ive found to be universal and most accurate is to just get off your ### and go for it. Find a company that will hire you, ask how much they pay, ask their schedule and just go for it, get your feet wet and give a company a chance. One thing i know for sure is the grass isnt green enough down the road to start jumping around. When you do, you have to start over and these hiring processes and training are extreme torture.

I NEVER want to repeat the experience.

Hi Paul, I have really enjoyed reading your posts! It is very inspiring to me that you were able to find a job that you enjoy right out of school. I have a similar mindset. I am willing to bust !?s and do whatever it takes to be successful as a new driver. Thanks for sharing your perspective. Now, maybe something I can comment on.

I wouldn't trust HR Block's "experts" with the kind of money you are making. My Mom took a 3 day class from them so she could learn to do her own taxes and after 3 days they wanted to hire her! I also know a Realtor buddy of mine that works for them every season that has no tax training. Get a competent CPA, he or she will save you money, not cost you money. Especially this year, since you lived in more than one state. Your CPA will have do an apportionment schedule and you may have to file resident for CA and non-resident for TX this year if you haven't gotten your drivers license etc. changed over. I wouldn't trust anyone but a tax CPA to know the right forms to file, much less to get the numbers right. A couple good things to get ready for next year so your residency will be established is to move your license, register to vote, and open a bank account in Texas. You may have already done all this, just letting people know these are good ways to establish residency if you are living in a motel. I imagine CA will give your money back, but since the state is broke, they may take their sweet time. Looking forward to more of your posts. God bless.

Right on Big Toad!! You are correct about getting a CPA!! I made the switch a few years ago and boy am I glad I did!! The only regret that I have is that I didn't do it sooner!! If you are clearing 60k + you are hurting yourself to go with one of those tax chains like HR Block or Liberty!! I still wave back at the costume wearers on the side of the road!!:biggrin_2559:
